"Jazz Dance Orchestra concert review"

Led by Vadim Zaidin, Jazz Dance Orchestra aims to promote jazz among people who primarily listen to pop music. To do so, the group plays various kinds of dance music in jazz arrangements. Among those whose songs Jazz Dance Orchestra has covered are the likes of Sting, Moloko, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas and Michael Jackson. According to some observers, sometimes jazz versions of popular hits sound just as good as the originals, but fresher.
Jazz Dance Orchestra appears to be able to translate just about any kind of music into the language of jazz, and the band’s concerts normally feature quite a diverse stylistic mix, including swing, funk, lounge, Russian folk tunes and even classical music. The band’s participation in the Channel One TV show “Prozhektorperiskhilton” has raised its profile among mainstream television audiences. - The Moscow News

Bio

It all started in 2004, when Vadim Zaydin, a trumpeter and composer who played with the respected Russian orchestras of Garanyan and Bril, decided to set up his own band with a strong brass section. He invited his colleagues to join his project and together they started to play American 20-30’s music.
They started their rehearsals on Christmas Eve, and it was its special atmosphere that influenced Vadim Zaydin to play jazzy music for relaxation and dancing. Since then, the name of Jazz Dance Orchestra reflected the character of the music and its members: dynamic, positive, active and dancing.
Being inspired by Paul Anka and Palast Orchester, Jazz Dance Orchestra started to work on a compilation of pop hits with jazz music and brought a new life to the hits of Ace of Base, Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Sting, Michael Jackson, Modern Talking, Mika and many others. The result - great: old songs, fresh sounds, impressive beats, outstanding atmosphere and a happy, dancing and singing crowd. The name “Jazz Dance Orchestra” was spread by word of mouth so fast that soon the band gathered a big group of fans that filled all concert halls they were performing in. Hundreds and thousands of people are sharing their music in the Internet.
All JDO members have great experience in jazz and pop music. Nastya Pukhlikova (vocals) started to perform at the age of 11 singing with a big band. It was Vadim Zaydin (Trumpeter and the leader), who saw her performing on the stage and decided to bring in a female vocal that will blow the atmosphere and freshen the air for the crowds. At the age of 17 she joined the band and became the face and voice of Jazz Dance Orchestra.
Musicians played with the American jazz artists, such as Michael Brecker, James Brown, Joey Calderazzo, Allan Harris, Deborah Brown, Carmen Lundy, Rene Marie, Kim Plainfield.
Jazz Dance Orchestra performs at the biggest Russian festivals, such as Usadba. Jazz, Jazz in Hermitage Garden, Lady in Jazz, Vdoh and Moscow International Film Festival.

You can also see JDO in the famous Russian TV shows such as ProjectorParisHilton. JDO songs are aired on the Russian jazz and lounge radio stations.

In 2012 Jazz Dance Orchestra was honored to play at Russia House in Hyde Park during Olympic Games in London.

Now Jazz Dance Orchestra works on writing their own songs and always ready for the new experiments in music.
