Bio
Formed in 2003 by saxophonist/flutist/composer Dan Blunck, Jazz Nouveau has gained a reputation as one of the Northwest leading contemporary jazz groups. Dan has been working professionally for 25 years and has performed with legendary artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Mel Torme, Ray Brown, Doc Severinsen, The Temptations, and many others. Dan has performed in a wide array of contexts, from jazz to classical, avante-garde to musical theater, and just about everything in-between. He draws upon his versatlity as an artist to connect with the audience and communicate a positive message through his music. Dan is the driving force at the core of Jazz Nouveau, and he enlists top-notch musical partners to bring his original songs and arrangements of classics to life. Featured on his 2004 CD "Check This Out!" is ace Seattle guitarist Michael Powers, one of the Northwest most loved and respected jazz musicians. Dan's vision for his band is to present his music as equal parts art and entertainment without sacrificing one for the other. The roots of jazz are in the groove, and that is the foundation for Jazz Nouveau as well; contemporary jazz in the groove.
