"Events that made summer hot -JB opens for Busta Rhymes"

Busta’s show on Wednesday started with a hardcore street-hop introduction by JB. His short and strong set was straightforward and serious. Street bangers were tightly interspersed with stripped down selections, but the highlight was the invaluable introduction of the Queen of Canadian Hip Hop, the eternally amazing Michie Mee. Their back and forth control of the stage, and Michie’s fiery presence and wordplay was clearly the highlight of the opening acts. JB did his thing, paid respect to Michie, and then gracefully bowed out. If only the next act was so wise and lucky.

"Feature: A Night for Community Building"

Toronto native hip-hop artist JB, looking dapper in a grey Hugo Boss suit and Alberto Guardiani shoes, makes his way across the main floor of The Capitol Event Theatre to speak to the press. JB is hosting Poetic Fashion -- a hip-hop infused fashion show featuring youth from Toronto's 13 priority neighbourhoods. The Kid Famous, Wolf J, Jaydahmann and two-time MMVA nominated JB headline the show.

"We chose JB... because he has lived in the 13 priority neighbourhoods...," explains Amiga Taylor, producer of Poetic Fashion. "The crowd would be able to relate to him and we'd be able to use his experiences and his voice as a mentor to the youth to see that you can come from this and become this."

Bio

With a deep, smooth commanding voice, JB is uniquely recognizable and is sure to stand out on any track he blesses and stage he graces. Anything but Just Another Brother, JB has consistently put it down heavy for the Hood. Not only representing the streets of Toronto but Hoods nation wide and is well respected for it.
A veteran of the streets, JB is just now in his prime, poised and ready to run the Rap game. Comparable to the like’s of T.I., The Game, Common, Plies, 50 Cent, Young Jeezy, Black Thought and even the legendary microphone fiend Rakim. JB is the real deal with real stories, real goals and real talent.
JB started rapping at a young age and would hang out with the older crew in the area learning what he could from guys who were already considered veterans and now pioneers of the game. JB’s Flemingdon Park community was a birth place for Hip Hop in Canada. Many of the cities founding “taste makers” can claim Flemingdon as their stomping grounds.
Over the years JB has stayed on the grind and maintained his focus on music and has let nothing step in the way of who he is and what he wants to achieve through the creation of great music. With hard work, dedication and mind boggling tribulations, JB now feels that he has gained enough strength and experience to make an impact, inspire those in need and provide opportunity for others less fortunate.
A true entrepreneur, JB solidified his own record label GCP Recording Corp. in 2005 and released his widely popular single “Ey Yo,” which was the top Canadian song on Urban radio for 12 weeks. In ’05 and ’06 JB completed cross Canada tours with The Game and Juelz Santana respectfully. In ’07 JB released “Fire In Your Eyes” feat. The Game, a song they recorded together while on tour. Fire In Your Eyes went on to receive a Best Rap Video nomination at the 2008 Much Music Video Awards and JB was nominated for a MMVA again in 2009 for his release “Move your Body.”
JB’s GCP Recordings has a digital distribution deal with Fontana North and all JB’s releases are available on iTunes world wide. His second solo LP “My Environment vol.1” will be released in ’09 with a portion of proceeds from digital sales going to his charity - JBZ Youth Deserve A Chance.
An ambassador of the hood, JB’s lead single to the release of his My Environment LP is “Good In The Hood” featuring Nicole Wray and Quinn Maeback. The song and video are both receiving rave reviews and heavy rotation.
JB’s appeal is mass and his respect is deep. Reaching out across genres JB’s music and crew of talented entertainers under the GCP Recording umbrella is the hot shit in the streets... We all know that what’s hot in the street, dictates what’s hot in pop culture. It’s time for something real and something fresh. It’s time for JB!
