Bio

Bio: Hip Hop Recording Artist JBR (Joseph B. Ruiz) Born October 18th 1977 & Raised in the Sunset park Brooklyn, NYC. JBR has established himself in the Rap Industry since the Mid 80’s doing rap music was a way to stay off the streets. But you had to be on the streets to rap about what you saw or were a part of everyday life. I was arrested five times for fighting in the streets and got caught for the sale of marijuana to an undercover cop Just a fine of $150 dollars, But Growing up in Sunset Park was rough I mean like any other neighborhood with an over populated low class income hood you have your random killings, stabbing carjacking stuff like that. At one point I was living in a basement under a 24 hour store for about 7 months my bed was this little folding bed next to cases of Pepsi bottles & can foods things you would find in your local corner Bodega store so you know I wasn’t ever gonna be hungry, but yeah it was ruff growing up. I left school in the 7th grade never got the education like a lot of the other kids but I wasn’t dumb just not the smartest kid around but I had a lot of street smarts that’s all I needed to survive on the streets. I never done any drugs it wasn’t for me. I was always into Rap music. I would just write rhymes all the time with my boy Frank he lived in Brownville, Brooklyn NY we would just everyday talk about buying this little ass Tascam 4 track mixer that we saw at some Electronic store on Fulton Street, down town Brooklyn, So we bought it for about 3 hundred dollars and we would just be treating this thing as if was a Million dollar Mixing board in size it was only 5x by 5x inches all around we would treat it like it was a million dollar studio we had this Roland drum machine and a little Casio keyboard man we were like making beats writing rhymes rapping with head phones on with one ear piece of the head phone plugged into our mic input, putting the song on tape cassettes, (DEMOS) we had made a bunch of demo tapes but was embarrassed to play it in front of other people. Lol but I grew out of that I was just shy to play my music. But as the years went by in 1991 I met Mark Wahlberg aka (Marky Mark) in the city with my homeboys. I thought Marky Mark was going to be like this big head ego rapper type of guy looking at you like I’m better then you. but in reality he was nothing like that he was this real down to earth dude he was like just one of the boys he got mad respect from me and my boys. so after that night I had gave Mark my demo tape that I had in my Glove compartment, again remember I was embarrassed to let anyone hear my music but after a day or two Mark called me up asked if I wanted to go with him to LA. He said he liked the songs I was like hell yeah so he helped me get a passport mind you I never left Brooklyn or been on a plane ever in my life. So I remember being on a plane with Mark he would tease me the planes going down as a joke. But from that day on we became mad cool we were doing a lot of crazy things. I chilled at a photo shoot with mark when he was shooting his Kalvin Klien Underwear adds it was learning the business from all aspects. Well now were in LA working on some recordings with the great Prince Ital Joe for his album “ Life in the Streets” Feat, Marky Mark and then a Tour was set up for Europe so Mark got two of his boys from Boston Ace & Brizz B and we recorded “That’s the way we Like It” & “Feeling Irie” in LA at Fabian Cook’s home Studio, Fabian produced the some songs he is a great producer. So we were getting ready for the European Tour. We all had a good vibe together all of us. We were like family every family member has problems with one another but we always showed One Love! I never wanted to do anything else but music. We have a track that we did as a group called “One Love” Ace, Brizz-B, Jbr for the movie “FEAR” Staring Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon which was the best thing ever for me to hear a song you did and hear it in a movie was the coolest shit ever. So a lot of my accomplishments go to Mark Wahlberg for the support and helping me full fill my dreams. Now were in the year 2009 and I still continue to make music. JBR open up Two shows for Donnie Wahlberg in Toronto, & Montreal Canada in 2009 for Donnie new single “I Got It” & ‘Rise & Grind” So I continued to keep Working on new projects , heck out on my new single “Grind It” & “Wicket live Band” all Produced by Marius Simiti & Adrian Stavian. Chour’s is Sung by Janelle, with her amazing voice, “One Love” was Produced by Fabian Cook in LA, All of JBR’s Lyrics are written by JBR & Copy written by ASCAP, for JBR Production’s Inc. One Love to all of You Thanks for the Support!!!!
