JC Carroll Album The Rock is in the Lapt0p
JC and the Disciples Limited edition 7” Single M1DL1FECRi5i5

Last Month saw the worldwide iTunes Release of an Album Called “The Rock is in the Lapt0p” by JC Carroll. Enclosed is a promo copy of that album plus a 7” 45 rpm Single M1DLIFECRi5i5 c/w NW10.

JC Carroll is Best Known As the Bloke who wrote the Punk Classic Sound of The Suburbs with Nick Tesco in the Members, he is also a Film and TV composer, mult-instrumentist and west London shopkeeper.

This album is an Internet Album it the true sense of the word in September 2005 JC uploaded a rough demo of song called Happy Hour onto an American Musicians Site Called Soundclick. He was astounded by the response of people to his music…. He had found a new audience! Within 6 months he was recording music with and for people all around the world and more importantly had begun a creative partnership with drummer Nick Cash (ex Fad Gadget and Prag Vec). 18 Months later with a worldwide listener base a staggering 30,000 listeners to this music online. The Album that began as a tentative demo is now on sale on the world largest music store iTunes.

SMASH THE SYSTEM is not just a Label it’s a Statement of intent… Along with many other musicians JC feels that a System that pays him just one penny per download (out of fifty received by the record company) for his Classic “Sound of the Suburbs” is unjust, immoral and an anachronism in the digital age we live in. JC and his collaborators receive 50 times that amount for sales From “the Rock is in the lapt0p”. This is the Future.

“THE ROCK IS IS THE LAPT0P” JC, and an exotic band of collaborators take you on a roadtrip that Starts with The Members inspired "Midlife Crisis" travels throught the Kinks village green, across the ASBO wastelands of the East End and ends up it Cyberspace with a Russian mermaid in the monumental "into the Ether" This album has it all Unreconstructed New Wave, Electronic Folk, New English Blues..... Amazing.

JC Carroll and his collective of collaborators have made a Definative London Album, from the gentle tale of suburban divorce in NW10 to the Death of a wannabe Gangsta on Streets of Whitechapel this album shows why the bloke who wrote Sound of the Suburbs and Offshore Banking never went away.

JC has proved in this album He is UK New Waves forgotten uncle. The Missing Link between Joe Strummer, Ray Davies and Mike Skinner.

"Zydeco stomp and acoustic Punk"

Modern Folk is an album that mixes Balkan Gypsy Music with Hillbilly Rock, Pre War Blues, Music Hall, English Folk, zydeco stomp and acoustic Punk. A Sort of Alt. Caucasian primordial soup of styles that bear the unmistakable signature of JC Carroll.

In the Last 20 years since the break up of "The Members" JC has spent time Learning accordian, mandolin and banjo, playing Klezmer, Highlife, and Folk at Weddings, Festivals, Pubs, Parties and funerals all over the UK. He has played accordian on major motion pictures for the likes of The Late Michael Kamen, Marlon Brando Johnny Depp Jolie Richardson and more recently Robert Di Nero. He has been the musical director of several Music Hall type productions and composed music for Film and TV.

This album sees the fruit of all that back to the roots research. From the dinging triangle introduction from arch collaborator percussionist Nick Cash on "House on the Risin' Sun" to the lonely organ on the final track "Give me paradise" There is a vibrant no-punches pulled approach to Modern Folk. Crammed with Songs about murderers, brothels, suicidal lovers, Lovesick Bluesmen, night people, Music Hall Dames and old haunted houses this is definately a celebration of the darker sides of Folk. What JC voices lacks in finesse is more then made up with the gusto in which he attacks his subject.

My only two criticisms is that there are two versions of the new Sound of the Suburbs I prefer the neo Ragga track 12 which brings a slight Shaggy tinge to this once punk now folk song, and the inclusion of the deeply depressing Butchers Boy.

JC's Guitar, mandolin,Banjo, accordian and melodica are alternatively comic, filmic and haunting throughout, as is the splendid piano of Tony Galye (it was he who composed the music for the excellent show tune style "Simplicity") the accordian and Banjo of Donal Lunny side man Graham Henderson (Nightshift and Sam Hall) are wonderful with the accordian solo on nightshift a hightlight of the album. Ex fellow wise Monkey Elliet Mackrell provides lilting violin and tin whistle on the guitarless waltz version of "Love in Vain" Nick Cash has been massive in bringing JC back into the studio in the last two years and his understated work on this album is exceptional. Lastly Simon Godley makes an impressive debut on Banjo.

Through The Magic of the Internet thats How. Mark Cloutier a very talented Semi professional Guitarist From Upstate New York, and Rob Grant a Heating engineer from Maryland logged onto the SoundClick Musicians board last year they did not Know they would end up playing on a classic English Concept Album.

NEW ENGLISH BLUES had its Worldwide iTunes Release on 1st April 2008
and is already picking up amazing reviews round the Globe.

"In the Tradition of the Who's "Tommy" and Floyds Seminal "Dark Side of the Moon", This magnificent album explores the melacholy and outrage that is at the Heart of the English Psyche" London Music review

This is How it Happened, JC Carroll a London (England) Based composer musician and Songwriter was looking for people to play on his New Rock Opera when he heard Marks Guitar playing . "I was blown away as soon as I heard him I wanted him on the album, even though I already had two really brilliant guitarists . I wanted to bring Marks Unique feel for guitar into the mix." Rob Grant coincidently had also worked with Cloutier had a piece of unfinished music that he thought might appeal to JC. That piece of music went on to become Caveman TV one of the most outstanding Tracks on the Album.

Legendary Post Punk Songwriter and Performer JC Carroll last had a hit in the US with a Song Called Working Girl (with The Members) in the early eighties. JC may only be known for Working Girl in the States but in the UK, JC's Sound of the Suburbs is a modern classic as is the Members first Album "At the Chelsea Nightclub" JC has over the Years worked with many US and and UK legends from Johnny Thunders (New York Dolls) Dee Dee Ramone, Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) has recently specialised in writing for Film and TV.

NEW ENGLISH BLUES (which has has a stunning 12,143 plays in One Month and topped the charts in 5 seperate Genres on the influential Soundclick music Board) is a return to his English Rock Roots, and what a return it is. A lovingly crafted concept album that starts with a dapper Kinksian lament NEW ENGLISH BLUES and takes you on a journey that encompasses all the classic English styles and ends up in the explosive stonesesque I AINT WORKIN' FOR THE MAN NO MORE.

If you are the type of person that mourns the death of the Classic ROCK album this piece of work is for you, tracks seemlessly melt into each other as the concept emerges. Lead Guitar lovers are in for a treat as First New Yorks finest Mark Cloutier then Nigel "Wizard of the Fens" Potter put their indelible stamp on this rock opera, the tour De force is left for the end of the Album as Nigel Bennett (The Members) adds his incendiary work to three tracks that close the album.

The way musicians from round the Globe have been working together over the internet is called Collabbing, people with a regular PC can suddenly find thier musicianship is in demand on the other side of the world. I6ts thanks to Sites like Soundclick.com and yousendit.com that this revolution in music is taking place.

NEW ENGLISH BLUES mixes Prog/Punk and Classic Rock Styles to concoct a
heady brew that is absolutely irresistible.
