Biography of J. City the Prince

J. City was born Christopher L. Evans in Oakland, CA, December 16th, 1989. J. City has participated in many events as a child starting in the 3rd grade. As City got older he took his talent of performing to a higher level by writing his own music.

City was born to Sonia Crosby and Joseph Evans in the winter of 1989.
His mother, Sonia, graduated from McClymond High School while pregnant with him. She was a single parent of two children, Chris (City) and Teyona. City got all his motivation from the women in his family. City is the second oldest out of his 10 siblings, separated between his mother, father, and step-parents.

City was raised in North Oakland and attended Santa Fe Elementary School. His two favorite teachers were Mrs. Hameen and Mrs. Cherry. In 3rd grade, City was selected to lead his class in the 1997 Martin Luther King Oratorical Fest performing James Brown’s “I’m Black and I’m Proud”. He led his class to a first place win and was in the newspaper for his class moving performance. In the 4th and 5th grade he won consecutive 2nd place medals for originality in the MLK Jr. Oratorical Fest.

City had a rough childhood growing up in Oakland as a child. City was expelled from 2 schools during his teens for obsessive fighting. He had a lot of anger due to family problems at that time. Eventually, he managed to get himself on track to graduate and get accepted into Texas Southern University.

As time went along, his passion for music has grown and now he’s aiming towards starting a label that can be a mainstream outlet for all artist from the West Coast, in all genres. City also is in the process of recording some new music.
