"JD Duvall-This Week's Featured MP3!"

Country blues slide guitar, India raga, pedal steel -- only JD Duvall could put these together and have it make perfect sense. Love Love Love is the lead track from his new album, "Bathe In The Light." The Jersey City troubadour has travelled the world - from Africa to São Paulo to the Lousiana Bayou - and mastered the mixing of civilizations and color, sometimes all in the same song. Whether he is fingerpicking a mean-ass blues or romancing you with a sultry samba, JD Duvall creates a world of his very own in song.

Bio

"JD Duvall's "Blood Red Moon" might just be the best indie rock CD I've ever mixed in my many years as a recording engineer in NYC. It's got everything: great songwriting, great playing, great arrangements, and to top it all off, JD's powerful, soaring vocals. His voice has that rarest of qualities; it will pull you irresistibly into his inspired musical world, and you'll love it there. Buy this record."

-Ted Spencer, recording engineer/producer (David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Winter, John Mellencamp)

"His music is pure soul...killer guitar playing; out of this world stuff you just don’t hear too much these days. Think old blues meets Led Zeppelin meets Jeff Buckley and you get a small idea of the sound he creates. Somehow he manages to pull off a Brasilian song in the mix -- this cats from Jersey? Crazy. Highly recomended."

"JD's quasi-orchestral textures suggest Michael Hedges, his aggressive, motoric rhythms recall a young Leo Kottke."

" One could feel that the spirit of Jeff Buckley was alive in JD's voice. This mixed with his Jimmy Page meets Michael Hedges guitar style made for a most unique experience."

JD Duvall creates a kind-of pychedelic ethereal rock combining the elegance of Floyd, the rapturous shouts of Zeppelin and the dark caverns of Jeff Buckley. Hints of Brit-rock, neo-psychedelia and old-soul blues pervade the 12-string guitarist's dreamy, spirited muse.

The time is overdue for the breakout of JD Duvall, a singer/guitarist who is winning over audiences with his singular brand of mystic rock. JD has performed everywhere from the Cutting Room and Rockwood Music Hall in NYC to venues such as Uncommon Ground and Cleary’s in Chicago, captivating everyone with his soaring vocals, shimmering slide guitar and percussive fingerstyle approach.

Not to be outdone in the vocal department, JD falls stylistically between a broken Radiohead and a depraved Zeppelin with the rapturous shouts of an old Faces record. JD responds:. “My favorite singers are actually Howlin Wolf and Robert Johnson. But lately I’ve been dipping into gospel—especially Sam Cooke’s early gospel period.

After his 2000 release of “Mood Ring, JD began heading in a more bluesy, psychedelic direction, culminating in the current release of not one but two albums, each completely distinct from the other. “Bathe In The Light is the more acoustic, rootsy record and was the vision of producer Tom Curiano. “Blood Red Moon is the big, electric statement.

“Bathe In The Light’ is the back porch album, JD says. “It’s about being organic, the subtle use of vocal harmony and band dynamics. ‘Blood Red Moon’ is the rock record; crashing electric and acoustic guitars in constant interplay. I’m proud of them both.

Mixed and mastered by Ted Spencer (Stevie Wonder, Johnny Winter), “Blood Red Moon is about polish. “Ted took the time to fine tune the sound and bring out the intensity of our live show.

“Bathe In The Light is about purity. “After ‘Blood Red Moon’ was finished, [producer] Tom Curiano sat me down and said ‘This is all good but I want to capture the raw ‘jd’. Come over to my studio, sit down, shut up and play your guitar and sing. I’ll take care of the rest.

“Bathe In the Light is a reaction to the big production of the earlier recorded “Blood Red Moon. Curiano envisioned JD in a more organic setting, whereby his acoustic guitar and voice would remain the primary focus. Guitars would be stripped down, vocals up front—and the song would be everything. Accompanied by Gerald Menke (ex-Mercury Rev) on pedal steel, Rob Curto (The Klezmatics) on accordion and Jim Whitney on upright bass, JD goes from the back porches of Clarksdale to the back alleys of Rio.

“Love Love Love echoes the tragedy of our most visceral desire over a wash of woven eastern harmonies. “Heedless Sky projects the dance of skeletons, jumping through a deserted graveyard over a hyper Delta backbeat. “Sound Of A Man translates the agony of yearning into a choreograph of colored chords and pining pedal steel. Old timey gospel is paid tribute to with the church-thumping rhythms of “Providence. “When It’s Time To Blow breaks down the evils of nose candy with a demonic Jimmy Page-inspired slide riff.
