Music has a new soul child and his name is J. Dean. With a sultry sound and a mellifluous voice, J. Dean brings music back to its roots and appeals to music lovers of all ages.

Born Jeffrey Dean Relph, this San Diego native got his early taste of music from his mother who sang and played the guitar at a neighborhood church. “I remember that no matter what mood my mother was in, she still got up and performed her best. That is what’s inspiring to me.” Following the footsteps of his mother, J. Dean picked up the guitar by age twelve and was singing by age sixteen.

For many years, J. Dean was a member of R&B/Pop group called “RARE BLEND”. While signed to record label Curb Records, the group performed songs on the multiplatinum soundtracks of Coyote Ugly, Driven and Angel Eyes. They have enthralled fullhouse audiences at the Cox Arena, House of Blues, Sport Arena, The Rock, Humphries by the Bay, the Del Mar Fair and the Viejas Casino to name a few. “Now is the beginning of a new era for me, I’m going solo to explore the depths of my musical gift.”
Influenced by industry legends of the likes of Brian Mc Knight, Whitney Houston, Eric Clapton and Phil Collins, J. Dean’s music is a blend of R&B/Pop, and Smooth Jazz mastered to be a pleasant tease to the ears. A hopeless romantic, J. Dean writes lyrics to evoke intimacy between lovers.

“I don’t want to reinvent romance but only add to it with my music. I talk a lot to my lady friends and listen to their complaints about their men and I draw from that to write songs that are genuine.” Currently in the studio recording his first solo album, J Dean promises to deliver music for the heart and to remain the kind of artist who is authentic in the studio as well as live.
