Bio

Texas born and bred, JD Newbury’s earliest influences came from Mickey Newbury at family gatherings where he heard Newbury originals such as “Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)” and “American Trilogy.” Inspiration came from a stack of vinyls that he listened to over and over as Kris Kristopherson, Mickey Newbury, and Dean Dillon played songs that fascinated JD. He went to school listening to these greats, and that is where he learned to turn a “phrase into a song through music”.

He caught the electric feeling that comes from performing, and it continued to intrigue him as he watched Garth Brooks and Gary Allan entertain massive audiences with sheer energy from music. Starting out as a drummer, he discovered that music was in his blood and encouraged by his friends and family, he began to take his own life’s experiences and turn them into songs.

“Beer Makes You Lean” was JD’s debut single. In the spring of 2010, the song became an immediate success, reaching the Top Ten on both the Texas Regional Radio Chart and Texas Music Chart. JD moved quickly to form his band, The Waycross County Outlaws, with musicians that in their own right have enjoyed great success. Now JD Newbury and The Waycross County Outlaws, travel the Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana playing for fast growing crowds of fans. JD’s performance is engaging, electric and filled with “life stories” around the songs that he performs.

From those countless days of writing songs, to the many miles on the road, JD never knows where the next song will come from. Included in JD’s debut CD are six of the songs that JD has written. The CD’s title, “Influences,” gives tribute to the rich experiences of JD’s life and the contribution from the many great songwriters who have influenced his writing.
