Biography

Jeanine Cullen is the vocalist and songwriter from the North Fork of Long Island who’s jazz-infused voice and catchy grooves are equipped to carve out a unique, new facet in Neo-soul/Pop.

Cullen’s life has always been rooted in her passion for music. She studied classical violin from age 7 and embraced the discipline the instrument gave her. However, humming blues songs and injecting her own lyrics was something she did from an early age and it soon led to cassette tapes filled with demo songs and musical ideas.
At 17, violin was placed on the back burner and Jeanine became busy singing at local venues accompanied by her acoustic guitar.

Cullen attended SUNY New Paltz in Upstate New York and majored in Jazz Voice. During that time she sang back-up with former Wailer’s band member Natty Wailer and regularly performed jazz with bassist Bakiti Kumalo of Paul Simon’s band. Fellow student and keyboard player Jason Smukler joined forces in 2000, performing and lending a hand in production.

Cullen became a member of the New York Songwriter's Circle in 2006 and performs in the New York area regularly. Whether accompanied by a band or simply her acoustic guitar, the music is delivered heart and soul.

Lyrics

Feeling Sound

Written By: Jeannine Cullen

I see colortones when I'm invisible,
I see everyone in terms so lyrical,
I've got pictures from my own funeral,
I say I don't know it's a miracle.
(dah, da , da, dah)

Many times I've said that I could see what you're thinking,
Traveling down a raod that you have only wanted inside,
You know I'm so Strong,
I'll get on & on.

I wanna know why I feel Odd,
Faces glow & I feel odd.
(Oh, baby how do you feel)

I wear my clown nose & you love me,
Some people say my clothes are above me,
I say I don't mind,
To those rules I'm blind.

Take what you feel as you go on,
Faces glow & I feel odd,
How many times have we stepped on,
I wanna know why I feel odd.

Taking Chances

Written By: Jeannine Cullen

There she is in her room again,
no one knows what is in her head,
must have heard some funky song
telling her that she wasn't wrong.

He who tries well come on down,
She who tries will come on down.

Cause I know you got the guts to be taking chances
instead your sitting around fallin into trances
you are in the water swimming out of my sea,
but don't go out of your mind

They're coming out with new appliances,
so you got more room for your Buyances,
we get so concerned with efficiancy
It's no emergency.

So there you are in your room again
no one knows what is in your head.
You must have heard some funky song
Tellin you that you weren't wrong.

He who tries well come on down,
She who tries will come on down.

Cause I know you got the guts to be taking chances
Instead your sitting around fallin into Trances
You are in the water swimming out of my sea,
but don't go out of Your Mind.

There coming out with new appliances,
so you got more room for your Buyances,
we get so concerned with efficiancy
It's no emergency

What if I like it, The other Way.
will they have Islands For - Ones like me.
Will they? Will they?
I wanna know....

Cause I know you got the guts to be taking chances
Instead your sitting around fallin into Trances
You are in the water swimming out of my sea,
but don't go out of Your Mind.

There coming out with new appliances,
so you got more room for your Buyances,
we get so concerned with efficiancy - Yeah

Sometimes I wonder 'Am I talkin 'bout me?'
Sometimes I wonder 'Am I talkin 'bout me?'
Cause I ain't waiting in line.
