"Jeanine Noyes reviews"

“Noyes sings like an angel.”
Michael Coren, CFRB
Toronto, Ontario

"The magic has a name: Jeanine Noyes! The lady with great personal presence works with a voice which enchants. No matter if a capella, accompanied with guitar or with piano - the sound of this voice expresses everything, which is needed for dedication and longing. Jeanine Noyes is able to sing a prayer like an angel or chants "I love you" like a mantra ... absolutely astonishing!"

“Jeanine is a very fine vocalist. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard “Abide With Me” and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a performance as beautiful as that. Thank you.”
Bill Richardson

“’He’s Here’ is fantastic, inspiring, beautiful, joyful, radiant. But I knew it would be.”

He’s Here – CD RELEASE REVIEW
It was standing-room-only at the Enoch Turner School House in Toronto in mid-November as friends and music lovers gathered to celebrate the release of Jeanine Noyes’ Christmas CD He’s Here. Flanked by her usual group of solid musicians including Toronto-scene regulars Fergus Marsh and Doug Romanow, Ms. Noyes delivered an exceptional evening of new and newly-arranged traditional Christmas offerings. From a rocking gospel rendition of Go Tell It on the Mountain to a roots-y country-blues interpretation of the typically sacrosanct Silent Night to the haunting and ethereal palindrome poem You Are All Things Beautiful, the effect was delicious and magical... and not at all unexpected. With her recent successes in musical theatre, this Dora Award nominee knows how to put on a show. Comfortable and engaging, Jeanine’s performance was capably bolstered by a string quartet and a phalanx of versatile back-up singers. He’s Here is an imago-sponsored project and is available in select music shops or at www.jeaninenoyes.com

It'd be difficult to find a more entertaining or thoughtful holiday offering than 2000 Candles. Performed by a versatile quartet (Ins Choi, Jeanine Noyes, Richard Peters and Tracy Thomas) who are asked to sing, act and play instruments _-- one minute they're a bluegrass band, the next they're a gospel choir _-- the show's individual pieces are well-rounded, fluid and always theatrical…
……. Jeanine Noyes's arrangements of songs old, new and from different cultures are revelatory.

…Ms. Noyes’ arrangements respect the Christmas songs they render in the sense that they acknowledge them as songs of wonder and praise in which the music is to set off and deepen the experience of the words. In so doing, Ms. Noyes’ arrangements also lowered the often high ‘sugar content’ by adding musical grit via folk, jazz and blues layerings. Ms. Noyes own voice did much of this latter work. Her between-song patter put on display a quick, spontaneous humour that was at turns broadly physical (over-the-top fussing with her dress), and gently self deprecatory (playing the diva with a nudge and a wink). One of the numbers, her musical palindrome ‘You Are All Things Beautiful’, was heart-poundingly moving, showcasing Ms. Noyes’ compositional sophistication as well as the giftedness of her musical supporting cast. What fun!

'Jeanine Noyes is a wonderful and original talent. I have listened to her CDs often and I have been moved and inspired every time. I recently hosted a live concert at my home, Freswick Castle in Scotland, and saw how she entertained, enthralled and captivated her audience. She has a very natural and powerful stage presence and brings her own unique combination of humour, honesty and raw emotion to her work. The evening was unforgettable. Jeanine is an artist to be treasured, listened to over and over again and, whenever she is performing live, she should not be missed.'
Murray Watts, Screenwriter, UK “The Miracle Maker”

“Kingston native Jeanine Noyes's debut CD Transparent is immediately mesmerizing. "My Love", the opening track showcases her angelic vocals and makes you stop what you're doing and listen. Backed by a four-piece band, her voice is a wonderful blend of a young Carly Simon and a tame Sarah McLaughlin. Haunting, seductive, roomy, and at times dark, the music expresses a funky, jazzy, often folky mood. Not to be drawn into the web of the beautifully stark "Abide With Me" seems impossible. This is a fine debut from a vital, inventive songstress who sounds like she's been recording for years.”

“Indeed the CD, called Transparent, [is] a lovely polished work that sounds as if it were made by a seasoned artist and not a recording rookie…”

“My favorite song (on the Longshot Live CD), however, is by Jeanine Noyes. It’s a plaintive, emotional tune that imaginatively uses what sounds like Gregorian chant.”

“Noyes, who now lives in Toronto, is playing with some great talent that helps make her shine. They are doing what a good band does best – hot players playing hot music. Noyes and company are steaming in fact, creating interesting musical arrangements with a sensual groove.”

Kingston Ontario native singer / songwriter Jeanine Noyes’ second CD was recently nominated for a Shai Award in Canada. “He’s Here”, Christmas offering filled with new treatments of old favourites and evocative original songs including the richly textured title track; a choral piece which earned an honourable mention from the prestigious Amadeus Choir Carol Writing Competition.

“Rise Up Shepherds and Follow” and “Go Tell It on the Mountain”, both tracks from “He’s Here”, received radio acclaim in Europe over the past two years.

Since the release of “He’s Here” Jeanine has been busy with concerts in Canada with her “steaming” hot band, as well as 3 tours in Europe in the past year; teaching and performing at Arts Conferences in Austria and the Netherlands, concert tours in Germany and Scotland with excellent response and high praise from both audiences and press alike.

In August of 2006 Jeanine rendezvoused with Kingston producer Matt Baetz at Freswick Castle in Scotland. With a laptop and some microphones they started work on a new recording. This collection of raw, naked songs inspired by the northern Scottish landscape, is due to be released in the fall of this year.

Jeanine’s critically acclaimed debut CD “transparent” exhibits her raw, honest lyrics, angelic vocals and haunting melodies.
