Jeanne Gies

Dubbed 'a pro' by Newport Jazz Festival founder George Wein, JEANNE GIES is recognized
by critics and musicians of the highest caliber for her full-bodied, emotionally expressive voice
and distinctive phrasing. A NYC-based singer songwriter, Gies has toured and given workshops
in Scotland, France, Germany, England, Austria, Italy, Jamaica, and Brazil She has performed
and recorded with a stunning array of jazz greats, including Howard Alden, Gene Bertoncini,
Gerald Cannon, Joe Cohn, John Hicks, Sherman Irby, Willie Jones III, Romero Lubambo,
Russell Malone, Bucky Pizzarelli, and Eric Reed. A prolific songwriter, Gies recently penned the
lyrics for songs by Brazilian composer Manu Lafer and teamed with Howard Alden to record this
amazing collaboration in Sao Paolo. Gies and Alden joined forces to write and perform songs
of their own, and are lauded worldwide for their distinctive jazz-pop style. As a licensed Speech
Pathologist, Gies specializes in training vocalists of all levels in jazz styling, vocal health,
and alleviation of performance anxiety, and specializes in accent reduction for professional
singers and speakers for whom English is a second language. Gies presides over the annual
Jazz Guitar and Vocal Workshop every April at the Schloss Korb in Bolzano italy with Alden
