Bio

The Jed Luckless Band was born on March 30, 2011 in a virtual world.

At the time, musician Jed Luckless was performing his act at a variety of bars, clubs and dance halls, bringing a mix of Grateful Dead, Phish and original music to growing crowds of “Jed Heads.” On good nights venues would fill with thirty or forty music seeking denizens, often decked out in the wildest attires and dancing ecstatically throughout the night.

Oddly, none of this existed in the physical world. This jam scene was growing digitally, in a virtual place called Secondlife. Shows were played from a studio and streamed live over the internet. Attendees were physically located across the globe, represented “in-world” by graphic avatars, strikingly real in some respects, and completely surreal in others.

By the time JLB formed, the Jed Heads had grown to hundreds strong and expanded their presence to Facebook, Twitter and other social media. “Jammin Jed” as he had come to be known, had played over a hundred shows, including many live shows in the NY area. Concert video was now streamed on “JedTV.”

Enter drummer Eric Stramiello. “Stram” connected with Jed in late 2010 and they began planning their future band and playing duo shows to eager fans. By early 2011 Kenny Kaufman had joined on bass and the JLB sound started to take shape. The roster was completed with the addition of keyboardist Mark Gutenplan. Just a few months later The Jed Luckless Band made their virtual debut, playing a mix of Dead, Phish, original songs and classic rock covers.

Since then, The Jed Luckless Band has played dozens of shows online and in the tri-state area including appearances at Kenny’s Castaways in NYC, The Bayou in Mount Vernon, NY and the Beach House Café in Greenwich, CT.

The Jed Luckless Band’s first single “Victim Of The Rhythm” was released in 2012 and their debut LP “Roll The Tape” was released in January 2013, featuring nine songs and forty minutes of original music.
