Jeen

Everywhere I Go
from: Tourist Deluxe Edition
Aside from providing us with this week's mantra, "burn it bright," and causing us to ponder what exactly is a Cookie Duster (the name of her band with Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning), Jeen O'Brien, who performs as Jeen, here offers a hybrid Sharon Van Etten/Lisa Loeb '90s throwback of a song in "Everywhere I Go."

Robin reports that Jeen's album, Tourist, out June 30th, ranges from acoustic guitar to more gnarled rock sounds, and some of that is captured on "Everywhere I Go," which sounds wistful and breezy in turn and all at once. - NPR

"from the indie vault"

*Canadian indie/pop artist, JEEN, has that old-timey alt-rock/punky vibe going on that just makes you want to blast her album really loud while lounging around the backyard.* - BUZZNET

"gimme your answers"

*I tend to fall in love with many songs, but it takes a lot for an entire album to grasp me. However, Jeen‘s latest solo record Tourist did just that.* - A Music Blog, yea

"introducing"

*“Buena Vista” is a pervy little ditty that takes off from its opening bars and never lets up on the accelerator. O’Brien’s breathy, take-no-prisoners vocals and her keen ear for infectious hooks make for the perfect blend of essential summer listening.* - quick before it melts

"album review"

“Buena Vista” is a punchy and textured song that sets off the adventure Jeen has set out for us on Tourist. From the first riff, we’ve got our sneakers laced up and we’re on the run. “Buena Vista” feels like the type of song to soundtrack a night of sneaking into private pools and drinking rum out of the bottle. Similarly, the driving guitars on “No Fade” and the seductively mellow “Way Up” give off shockwaves of badassery – Jeen is a bad mama jama, a bluesy sweet treat to the ears, and she gets our motorcycle engines revving.

Tourist isn’t all black leather-clad tracks; Jeen has done a careful job of including a variety of sounds that encompass our complex human emotions. On the slower tempo song “Backyard,” there is a delicately contemplative air about it, with lyrics such as, “We are all apart of everything, and I go only where my heart will bring.” - Best Fan
