Bio

Ahmad Gibson is a 22 year old hip-hop artist that goes by the stage name, “Jefe”. Jefe was born and raised in Chicago, IL and currently resides on the south side of Chicago in the Bronzeville area. Jefe went to Providence St. Mel for middle school, Niles West for high school, graduated with his associates from Lincoln College, and is currently a student at UIC. Jefe was a local high school basketball star and decided to take up music once he decided he didn’t want to pursue his basketball career at the collegiate level. This decision stemmed from multiple reasons, but a big one being he didn’t want to be limited to just a basketball player. He wanted to use college as a fresh start to discover more about himself and tap into any untapped potential that had been hiding behind his success on the basketball court.
Jefe started writing music in his dorm room at Lincoln college in 2014 just to pass by time and immediately fell in love with the process of making music while also realizing he had a real talent for the art. By 2015, at 19 years old, Jefe had already written and recorded his first mixtape entitled “The Change”. Prior to releasing the mixtape, Jefe released the lead single for the project, a track called “Wonderland”. The song is the artist’s most successful single to date, with its music video having over 125K views on YouTube. Jefe released the project on all digital media outlets (iTunes, Tidal, Spotify, etc.) the following year, along with the music video for the project’s next single, “Metropolis”, a heartfelt tribute to his hometown Chicago.
Between 2016 and 2017 the artist did a ton of performances at nightclubs, school events, local festivals, fashion shows, and even his own listening party with over 100 people in attendance. Jefe had his song played on Power 92 for months in rotation and the artist also came to the radio station for multiple interviews. He was also featured on various other local radio stations and publications.
The year 2018 was an extremely quiet year career wise for personal reasons, but still the rapper decided to end the year on a positive note. Jefe co-headlined a show at Chicago’s Refuge Live! with over 200 people in attendance, although he hadn’t released a song or a project in over a year, since his controversial, black empowerment project entitled “BLACK”. Jefe plans to release his debut album, “Silver” between the summer and fall seasons of 2019.
Jefe’s music is all based around personal experience and constant everyday growth of a young man in his early 20’s. His family is extremely relevant and present in his music, mainly based around both his parents, his 16 year old sister, and newborn baby brother, his girlfriend, best friends, and both his grandmothers. Jefe’s music is extremely transparent and versatile and is a direct reflection of his values and life experiences. His father’s rap influence, Nana’s old school classics influence, Mom’s throwback R&B influence, grannie’s gospel influence, and the influence of his own personal taste in music all shine through his own recordings in their own respective ways. Jefe is still figuring out who Ahmad is each day and how Jefe is apart of that person, and his music reflects that journey and that process in every way.
