"Album Review: NuFutur Magazine"

“13 Questions is an album that feels absolutely epic in scope…Cannon’s eclectic style is able to pull disparate influences and styles from the whole of twentieth century music, establishing an unmistakably twenty-first century sound…Simply a fantastic album.” - NeuFuttur Magazine

"Jeff Cannon, 13 Questions"

It goes without saying that anything ever written has some rhetorical character to it. But, 13 Questions transcends a simple raison d’etre—this is an album with a heart; a mind and a soul. "This is more an introspection and testament to social awareness than record. If you want music that stirs your insides and demands that you think; pick this up and find 13 answers of your own." - Skope Magazine

Bio

I'm a New Yorker. What I mean is that I know firsthand how tightly we are all packed in this place--on this planet. New York taught me what should be obvious in the first place: we need each other. I can't rise if you don't rise too. I don't know if we're gradually learning that idea together or if we're gradually losing it. But it's the thing I care most about. And it's what caused me to start writing songs again after almost a decade away. I hope I've served the idea well on 13 Questions.

As to my faraway past, I grew up in New York surrounded by more than my share of opportunity. In 1963 my dad founded the still-running Postcrypt Coffeehouse. I went off to a music boarding school at 9. In the very early 80s my band The Kids was a music scene fixture up and down the east coast. In the 90s I resurfaced on both Boston's and then the national folk circuits. For a few years I co-managed the Boston Folk club Passim. Then I hit the road. I released four solo CDs, was on a half-dozen compilation CDs, mercifully got played by a few hundred acoustic and indie deejays, and toured until the babies came.

In 2002 I settled down to writing, and to teaching journalism at Indiana University, which I still do. I've picked up a few higher degrees in the process. But at heart I'm just an artist. And nothing makes me feel luckier than to be able say I've got some new music for you.
