Lyrics

Sarah or Joe

Written By: Jeff Doud

My lovely Debra Lee
Sweet little Mom to be
Hold on to that baby
One more month, patiently
When the moment is right we will see
If the joy of our life is to be
Sarah or Joe
Sarah or Joe

They told us you’d be big like this
That it might not be easy to kiss
That clothes as you grew wouldn’t fit
That you surely were going to be kicked
But that movement inside you is real
That fluttering heartbeat you feel
Is Sarah or Joe
Sarah or Joe

If it’s Sarah will she be fair?
We she have Mother’s shimmering hair?
Or if Joe makes it his birthday
Will he thrill when his old man plays?
When arrival comes shivering cold
Will we cry and cry “Lo and behold!”
Sarah or Joe?
Sarah or Joe?

What a twinkle will be in the eye
What wit and how quick with a smile
How carefree will be the style
Of our unburdened innocent child
And how close we will be at the side
How perfect our passion and pride
In Sarah or Joe
Sarah or Joe

One and Only

Written By: Jeff Doud

Two grownups alone and both lonely too
Had been on their own all their twenties through
They met and set free love’s ever only
One and one only love, one and only
My one and only, one and only
You are my only one, one and only
Forever will be ever only
My one and my only one, my one and only

Then along came another to join our song
My look in his eye and your smiles on
And he came to be a loved one of three
Another one only one my one and only
My one and only, one and only
He is my only one, one and only
Forever to be ever only
My one and my only one, my one and only

Now brother or sister is staking a claim
Making an entrance and taking a name
And soon he or she will be one of we
And become my only one, my one and only
My one and only, one and only
Who’ll be my only one, one and only?
Forever to be ever only
My one and my only one, my one and only
My one and my only one, my one and only

Letter to Lucy

Written By: Jeff Doud

Letter to Lucy

You’ve got your first year behind you, and now you’re well on your way
And I’m so happy to be here with you, to celebrate your day
So much I wish I could tell you if I was able to stay
But you’re turning one today, and I’m turning gray
So I’m writin’ it down in a letter to Lucy
Gonna tell you about all the things I know you’ll see
You’re startin’ right now on a book for the ages
I’m talkin’ about all your empty pages
All your empty pages

Learn all you can and laugh freely, see things through to their end
Wear your feelings on your sleeve, and stand behind your friends
And let your heart be what guides you when you must choose a new way
Remember love’s not what you seek; it’s what you give away
I want to write it all down in a letter to Lucy
Want to tell you about all the things I know you’ll see
You’re startin’ right now on a book for the ages
I’m talkin’ about all your empty pages
All your empty pages

But most of all for those moments when you are facing your fears
Think of your old Papa here back across the years
And in the words to this letter you’ll find what I had in mind
You’re once a dream now coming true, Lucy, it’s your time
That’s why I’m writin’ it down in a letter to Lucy
Gonna tell you about all the things I know you’ll see
You’re startin’ right now on a book for the ages
I’m talkin’ about all your empty pages
All your empty pages
