Bio
Still searching for that knack for shameless self promotion and like my songwriting brother “I’m afraid of self-quoters.” It's also my press agent's day off, so here goes:
I've been a professional musician for nearly twenty years. Started out on guitar and lead vocals in a classic rock trio known as "No Problem" performing many clubs and events throughout New England for about 5 years.
In the years since I've worked in duo's, fronted several bands including what was known as The Casual Sextet. Most often playing throughout my native, beloved New England. I did however do a stretch in Florida playing clubs from Gainesville to Key West for about 5 years. I’ve also been invited to perform at several great songwriters’ festivals, from which I learned a great deal.
Currently I perform primarily solo, occasionally joined by a harp playing percussionist and/or bass player, especially for those nights and venues more rockin'
I've played venues large and small and for a diverse range of audiences. As a result, I have learned to "'play to the room." Never working from a Set List, I play to and along with the energy of the room. Helping to generate it when necessary. Even before I start a night off, I get a feel for the room and what material will be appreciated and what songs/styles to avoid.
I've been successful at what I love to do and I'm told it shows during my performances - I truly love to play. My many years of gigging have taught me to be professional on all levels. I understand and interact well with audiences. I also understand the needs, concerns of venue owners and workers. There’s never a need to worry about excessive volume or other issues clubs often need to deal with.
Influences include: My brother Jack Hayford, John Hiatt, Richard Thompson, Bob Dylan, Tom Dean, The Stones, Tom Petty and many more.
