Do you want to rock? Or maybe you prefer some blues? How about some soul? Jeff Jolly got it all! Hooks, lines, chords and down home blues. This band can groove!! I really dig me some good music and this is the type of sound I'd find myself pumpin' in the summer baby...Jeff Jolly has definitely spent the better part of his years honing his craft. Beautifully crafted guitar licks and simple but wonderfully explicit lyrics bring the down home folk style deliveries exploding to your ears. A lazy guitar player he is not. This man can let loose some licks, be it on an acoustic or an electric axe, my man can make the guitar sing to you sweetly. I really appreciate true talent and a sense of when to and when not too take it overboard. The pockets are in the right spots and the riffs reverberate with a confidence I have not heard from many guitarists in my time! The Jeff Jolly band is a delight to the ears and a truly soulful experience.

The Jeff Jolly Band's new CD, '"The Runner" (Boff), shows that the the band has an expansive blues-rock sound that encompasses many other styles effectively. The most immediately striking things about the disc are (Jolly's) fluid and inventive lead guitar work and his impressive original songs. While there's not a mediocre song among the 12, the best cuts are the straight-ahead rock of "Long Distance Love" with its sinewy lead lines, the jazzier sounding "A Believer" (with Zero's Martin Fierro on tenor sax) and the haunting instrumental "S.R.V. (We'll Miss You)", a tribute to the late Stevie Ray Vaughn.'

The Jeff Jolly Band, from San Francisco, have just released "The Runner" on their independent label, Boff Music, and are beginning to gain national attention. Their music is a mixture of blues, jazz and rock. Featuring Ike Turner's daughter, Twanna, on vocals and Howard Wales (who played on the Grateful Dead's American Beauty) on keys, "The Runner" is an album of diverse styles and quality musicianship. Already receiving airplay on KHUM/Eureka, CA and on KFOG/San Francisco's "Acoustic Sunrise," "The Runner" is an album that has a little something for everyone.

Jeff Jolly Keeps Kicking Ass In Humboldt
Jeff Jolly returned to Humboldt County on January 24th to help KHUM celebrate its 2nd anniversary on the air at Tomo's on the Arcata Plaza. Jeff and KHUM are good friends, and he was glad to come up and help us celebrate. And to put a real kick in the visit, Jeff not only brought along guitarist Kevin Haapala, a regular JJB accomplice, but gassed us all by dragging ivory tinkler Howard Wales up for the party. Howard Wales is well known for his Hammond B3 work with Jerry on "Hooteroll" and the Dead on "American Beauty". Howard is also on "The Runner" with Jeff and the band.

We were all definitely in the party mode. Jeff started out his set with an acoustic "Mama Said", which he performed with his usual flair and gusto, then did a fine version of "The Runner". Howard and Kevin joined in, along with the drummer from a local salsa band, Caldera Nueva, and treated us all to some more fine sounds. The set ended with a slow yet extremely funky Wales' tune that had everyone in the groove. What a treat to hear these fine musicians live! We closed the place and then some, and are all looking forward to our 3rd anniversary party.

ROCKS REDWOOD RUN
A beautiful day, the perfect venue. Thousands of tripped out Harleys with their tripped out riders and honeys. That set the stage for a great session by the Jeff Jolly Band. The 20th Anniversary Redwood Run kicked off on Friday, the 13th of June. The party was held at the natural theater on the Kiwanis Riverview Ranch set along the Eel River near Piercy, in the northern end of Mendocino County, California. The band got the crowd going doing their soundcheck around 5 PM and everyone was getting hyped up for the show. A couple warm-up acts set up the crowd for some real music. JJB obliged them instantly when they cranked it up about 6:30. They had a huge stage to spread out on and everyone was grooving on the space. An excellent sound system filled the canyon and swept out to the steep hill full of grooving bikers that was about 50 yards out from the stage. The large area in front of the stage was filled with bikes and beer-n-balloon carrying bikers and babes who were obviously enjoying the tight, driving tunes that the JJB was laying down. Everyone was in fine form. Phil Wood joined on trumpet. The most memorable tunes were a righteous "Shotgun", with Twanna hittin' it hard, an exquisite "S.R.V" with Jeff going off, cooking solos from everyone on an extended "Big Sky", and Jeff's superb encore of "Mama Said". Twanna, Desiree and Sharron got called on stage by Elvin Bishop during his set and got the crowd howling with their special brand of background vocalizing. The rhythm section was a solid, driving force, and Kevin, Mike, Bob and John all tore the place up. We had to leave after Elvin's fine set and get ready for the Oyster Festival gig the next day in Arcata.
