Biography

Short Bio:

Billboard Award Winning singer-songwriter Jeffrey Paul Bobrick is quickly becoming a fixture on the New York music scene. Recently honored by American Songwriter Magazine, "JPB" is creating a buzz on the east coast with his "very clever, bright, intelligent songs" (Joey Reynolds, WOR radio) and powerful live performances. He is constantly writing new music and hopes to continue to record and perform not only throughout the United States but the world.

Long Bio:

Billboard Award Winning singer/songwriter/pianist Jeffrey Paul Bobrick is a throwback to classic songwriting and showmanship. They don’t make ‘em like this anymore.

It starts with the voice. It can go low, almost Johnny Cash low, but George Michael smooth. And when that voice gets pushed higher and harder, it rings loud, rich and brave. Whether singing a song of longing and love or a fun up-tempo romp, that voice captures your interest instantly.

Moving, powerful and, above all, entertaining, “JPB” writes melodic, introspective pop songs that sound something like the lovechild of Elvis, 80s pop and the musical “Rent.”

“I grew up on all kinds of music, but especially rock ‘n’ roll, musical theater and classical music,” he says. “At four years old, I was in my room listening to Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Rogers and Hammerstein and then maybe Tchaikovsky. My taste in music has only grown since then. It’s Morrissey on Monday, Stevie Wonder on Tuesday and then Regina Spektor over the weekend. So my songs sound like some mash up of all these amazing influences.”

Born and raised in New York City, Jeffrey started writing music at a young age and was performing frequently by the time he reached high school. He read Shakespeare at Oxford University, trained in theater at the British America Drama Academy in London and graduated with a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College in New York. After studying as a classical singer and enjoying a successful career as an actor (Off-Broadway, national tours, indie films), Jeffrey returned to his first love: Music.

In January 2007, Jeffrey released his demo EP “When You Are Free,” which won him songwriting honors from Billboard Magazine and was praised by Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame DJ Joey Reynolds, who said: “These are very clever, bright, intelligent songs. Great writing. Lovely music. It’s wonderful!”

JPB currently performs frequently in New York City at venues such as Symphony Space, the Bitter End and Café Vivaldi, as well as up and down the east coast. His song “Broken Tomorrow” is featured on Neil Young’s “Living With War Today” web site and he was honored by American Songwriter magazine in their August 2007 issue for his song “Never Met Anybody Like You,” a popular addition to his live show that brings down the house.

More than anything, Jeffrey wants to create great music that his fans will love to hear as much as he loves making it.

“My fans are amazing! They’re supportive, loving people,” he says. “People are looking for something new and different in music. I want to deliver for them and take them on an emotional journey with my music. I’d love for people to leave my concerts saying: ‘He performed for me man! He gave everything.’”

JPB lives in New York, writing and performing. He is in pre-production for a full length CD, slated for release in 2010.

Lyrics

Crown of Thorns

Written By: Jeffrey Paul Bobrick

Don’t apologize,
I’ve heard enough already
You are tired
I’m not the only who’s wronged
Ease your burden
I see the weight that’s on your back
You’d carry it with you through eternity
And never know that it was with you
And never know that I am with you

We’re forever falling over our own creations,
We’re forever seeing faulty manifestations

Why must we all wear
Why must we all wear a crown of thorns?

Don’t apologize
I’ve seen enough already
Many people
Suffer in torment, think they’ve wronged
What you carry
Does it provide you what you need?
How can you think that you are blamable
When who you are is good enough
When who you are is just enough

We’re forever falling over our own creations
We’re forever seeing faulty manifestations

Why must we all wear
Why must we all wear
A crown of thorns?

We’re forever falling over our own creations
We’re forever seeing faulty manifestations

Why must we all wear
Why must we all wear
Why must we all wear
A crown of thorns?

Don’t apologize.

An Angel Sleeps

Written By: Jeffrey Paul Bobrick

Late at night I’m all alone
But I don’t mind it for me
I know you’re out there getting gone
With your bitter company
And when you come home I’ll be waiting
I’ll be here to dress your wounds
And hear you cry about our wasted life

An angel sleeps beside me
She has her moments
She has no mercy
This memory inside of me
I hold her tight
And pray that she’ll see what I see

Don’t understand how you abuse
And trash your lovely self
The best of you goes with the worst
I wish you were somebody else
And when you need it I will hide it
I’ll be there to keep you in
And even when you scream I’ll still hold on

An angel sleeps beside me
She has her moments
She has no mercy
This memory inside of me
I hold her tight
And pray that she’ll see what I see

She tells me that she’s sorry
I tell her it’s ok
She says that she won’t slip again
Will I wait another day?

Here I am so taken in
By a girl I used to know
Her skin is pale, she looks so small
I see I lost her long ago
I just want to keep her with me
Cuddle close and hear her breathe
But I don’t make her happy anymore

An angel sleeps beside me
She has her moments
She has no mercy
This memory inside of me
I hold her tight
And pray that she’ll see what I see

Never Met Anybody Like You

Written By: Jeffrey Paul Bobrick

I’d like you to move away
Find another place to live
Don’t leave any more messages
On my machine
I’d like to lose your number
Never call you again
I’ve been living six feet under
Ever since you became my friend

CHORUS
NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU
You’re so annoying
I NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU
You’re such a pain
NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU
I hate you deeply
I never met, never met, never met, never met
NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU

Every time you come over
You have something mean to say
I have never met a woman who
Makes me feel so afraid
Please stop callin’ all my friends
Sayin’ that we’re hooking up
It is time to put my foot down
Honey, this has gotta stop!

CHORUS
NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU
You’re so annoying
I NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU
You’re such a pain
NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU
I hate you deeply
I never met, never met, never met, never met
NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU

All I want is to avoid you
You are not my pride and joy
I can live my life without you
Please find someone to annoy

You want to be a part of
Every little thing I do
No matter where the day might take me
I always end of up with you
You are sleeping in my bed
And you’re lookin’ kinda sweet
I may just have lost my mind
Why on earth did we ever meet

NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU
It’s so annoying
I NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU
My heart is sore
NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU
My pride’s on the floor
‘Cause I love you more
Don’t go away
I love you more
I never met, never met, never met, never met
NEVER MET ANYBODY LIKE YOU

Pictures

Written By: Jeffrey Paul Bobrick

In my pictures I am happy
In my pictures everything is all right
In my pictures I am smiling
Living gently as a child of the light

And I remember how my mother said
I want to give you the world
And I remember stumbling out of bed
Crying
And I did not know
I did not know why

In my pictures we’re a family
In my pictures we do everything nice
In my pictures my Dad’s strong
In my pictures he loves his wife

And I remember how my father said
I want you to be what I was not
And I remember stumbling out of bed
Crying
And I did not know
I did not know why

I come face to face with what I used to see
Kicking dirt up as I leave the lies
And I can’t remember what I ought to be
But it’s time to say goodbye

I like to look at the pictures
They remind me of what could have been
If it all worked out the way we planned
If we set up our lives so we can win

And I remember how I once wrote down
My parents, you gave me the world
And I remember looking all around
Smiling
And I did not know
I did not know why

Still Love You

Written By: Jeffrey Paul Bobrick

You want so much from me
You want all
Why won’t you let me be
Don’t call
You want to suffocate me
With love
You say we’re meant to be
Hand in glove

It’s not that I don’t care for you
It’s not that I don’t adore you
It’s not that I don’t want to give you
All that I can (oh)
It’s not that I don’t love you
I’m always thinking of you
But I still want to be a free man.

I love myself
I love you too
Can I love me
And still love you?

You come around
And it’s a shame
You wake me up
And I’m to blame
You will not give me any peace
You won’t allow for my release

I need to breathe some air
But do you really care
You take my sweat, my blood, my life in your rage (oh)
There’s much I want to give you
But I can’t always be with you
I’m not a beast to fit your cage

I love myself
I love you too
Can I love me
And still love you?

I will make you dinner
I will sing you love songs
I will hold you when you are in need
I will listen to you
I will see right through you
Will our love be obliterated by your ruthless greed?

I love myself
I love you too
Can I love me
And still love you?

When You Are Free

Written By: Jeffrey Paul Bobrick

Love thy neighbor as thyself
Has to be your most violated commandment
And I know how you need love.
Bound and silenced for so long
While you did what others needed from you
Now you’ve left what once was yours

When the pressures lift around you
And you’re all alone
You can finally find a way
When some mercy comes upon you
And your pain has flown
I hope you’ll hear me when I say

CHORUS
When you are free, when you are free
You can leave your past
When you are free
When you are free, when you are free
Your love for you must last
When you are free

When you’re working for so long
Shutting off the calling of your heart’s desires
It can pull you from yourself
When you push and strain so hard
That your limbs are numb and the pain is empty
It can leave you feeling lost

Change is coming, that is certain
Though is has been long
You know there must be more
Scatter all your self before you
And you’ll see you’re strong
There is so much to explore

CHORUS

Falter farther forward
Feeling for emotion
Finding sound foundations, leaving agony
Banished but unbroken,
Bending, seeking balance
Hold your soul tight, give it light, and let it see
Let it see

CHORUS

Nobody's Normal

Written By: Jeffrey Paul Bobrick

I gotta conform
Can’t stand out too much
Gotta be a round peg
In a round hole.
I gotta be smooth
Not speak my heart
Gotta keep my damn foot
Outta my damn mouth

I gotta be smart
See what other people do
Gotta watch them to know what’s right
I gotta shut up
And shove all my feelings down
Or maybe I’ve got to give it up

‘Cause Nobody’s Normal, nobody’s wrong
It has taken my whole life to see
That Nobody’s Normal, nobody’s wrong
So I’ll just be who I want to be

I gotta construct
My life just like his
Gotta do it one way
Or not at all

I gotta accept
Reality
Gotta keep my damn hands
To my damn self

Gotta be good
Keep my pen inside the lines
Hold my tongue
Follow the rules
I gotta play safe
Think what others think of me
Or maybe I’ve got to let it go

‘Cause Nobody’s Normal, nobody’s wrong
It has taken my whole life to see
That Nobody’s Normal, nobody’s wrong
So I’ll just be who I want to be
