Jeffrey Smith

BandAlternativeRock

I write a diversity of material for film (mostly ambient/experimental/electronic), solo performance (acoustic folk rock or electric free improvisation) and power trio (a mix of post-rock, punk, and jazz)

Biography

My songs are about stepping away from things like: A generation raised on popular media which causes sensationalism, paranoia, and anxiety which leads to conformity which leads to boredom which leads to racier shows until one has reached a post-taboo state which leads to boredom which leads to human see what monkey do which leads to "I am unique and daring with a drink in my hand and a swell in my gland" which leads to the creation of false identity and hollow communities which leads to varying degrees of destruction which leads to fragmentation which leads to isolation which leads back to TV.

Lyrics

Apartment Jellyfish

Written By: Jeffrey Galvin Smith

She shares mythology
Tea parties in the sea

Childhood memories
Inform our new stories

Submerging former fear
Our love would join us here

Until we are no more than
Waves we ride beyond the shore

Story she shares (shows me)
Let her be free
Never assume
I know who she’ll be

My love to create
Unconditionally
Sing this song through the walls
That I built around me

My love swirls under her
Rhythmic ocean pearl

Secular prayer takes shape
The day that her water breaks

Apartment Jellyfish
Comfort a humanist

Until “we” are no more
Than ashes on the ocean floor

Story she shares (gives me)
Let her be free
Never assume
I know who she’ll be

My love to create
Unconditionally
Sing this song through the walls
That I built around me

Pillars

Written By: Jeffrey Galvin Smith

Don’t play with our pillars
With your blood
Stained fingers

Conservative mind

Pandemics will not hear
About your
Pious fear

Conservative mind

Public health is underneath
Leaders making choices
Based on moral bequeath

Brother can you spare a dime
I need five more dollars
To make up for a lifetime

Staunch views are up against
Strong published
Evidence

Public health is underneath
Leaders making choices
Based on moral bequeath

Brother can you spare a dime
I need five more dollars
To make up for a lifetime

And the dead lay at our feet
Like Frank in a snowy tomb
In a vault called Hastings Street
In the absence of a room

And… the dead lay at our feet.
And… the dead lay at our feet

La, la, la, la , la, la, la...

Public health is underneath
Leaders making choices
Based on moral bequeath

Brother can you spare a dime
I need five more dollars
To make up for a lifetime
