Biography

Jeff Scott has been a long time in the making. Growing up outside of Cleveland, Ohio gave me a midwestern sensibility and a biting humor necessary to survive suburban life. It’s this backdrop that shaped my attraction to the small dramas of life; secret lives and deeds played out behind closed doors. These imagined (and sometimes real) stories influence my lyrics. Often writing from personal experience, I search for ways to express the common human experience.
Whether the lyrics successfully do this is up for grabs. Ultimately it’s about the music for me. I want my songs to stick to your soul. Hopefully they’ll lift you up and keep you moving throughout your day, or help you take a stand in this world. I think that’s why we all listen to music.
When pressed to name musical influences I have to give major nods to a vast array of artists from all genres. Topping the list are the likes of Lou Reed, David Bowie, Elmore James, and Gram Parsons. However, when its all said and done, I hope that I am speaking with my own voice and slowly building off the backs of the giants and legends that have come before.
Happy Listening,
Jeff

Lyrics

I Have Arrived

Written By: Jeff Mettee

Every time I am depressed I re-invent myself
I guess that's why I keep on breaking down
It's gonna be different some how

I feel clean like a new born baby
I think I've arrived

Sometimes I dream and wake at night
Paniced that I have missed my chance
Telling myself it will all work out
Gonna be different some how
I feel clean like a new-born baby
I think I've arrived

Days stack on top of themselves
Hours like rivers, they rush on by
Chances not taken are a pain that will always last

I work my task like an ox pulls the wheel
Harden my nerves til they're set like steel
Grit my teeth and fix my stare
Throw out caution, I'll go anywhere

I feel clean like a new-born baby
I think I've arrived

Burn Me Down

Written By: Jeff Mettee

"Try not to make anyone cry today"
Mary mutters as she moves on by
I'm beginning to feel closed in but I don't know where to begin to describe it
The Jack-girls in their leather suits tell you it don't matter
Oh, but it matters

Four years now in this same old town
I thought by now you'd be falling down
I thought by now you'd be burning me down
Burn me down, Burn me down

Now, all the Jack-girls run for their marshmellow sticks hope to get fueled by the fire
Did you mention to the sheriff you'd be burning my home down
You're so evil, so evil

Four years now in this same old town
I thought by now you'd be falling down
I thought by now you'd be burning me down
Burn me down, Burn me down

Before you scatter to the wind
Lighting flashes from your eyes
This is what you've been waiting for
You little whore who I adore

Time and again you greet me with your false smile
Ten inches of lies stacked behind your teeth
We were so grateful, your so hateful, fall back to sleep
You're so evil, so evil

Four years now in this same old town
I thought by now you'd be falling down
I thought by now you'd be burning me down
Burn me down, Burn me down
