Here Comes The Weather

Written By: Jeff Shattuck

HERE COMES THE WEATHER
© 2008 Jeff Shattuck

We stare at each other
Across the table
Our plates are full
We try to talk while we're still able
But the wine in the glass
Is sinking fast
And words right now
Would not be for the best
And outside the wind
Hits from the west
And here comes the weather

We say we're in love
Almost every day
We laugh out loud
When we talk this way
But the clock on the wall
Is ticking hard
And just above the wind
We hear the sound of passing cars
Driving like the rain
About to fall from afar
And here comes the weather

(MIDDLE 8)
And I watch as the sky (B)
Turns from blue to gray (C, C)
And I try to hang on (D)
To what we have to save (F, C)
But I'm losing my grip (C, G)
I'm losing my way (C, G)
I'm losing you (C, G)
And I want you to stay (A to A7)

SOLO over E

We stare at each other
Across the table
Drops of rain
Hit the glass like little nails
And outside the wind has become a gale
And here comes the weather

Demons & Saints

Written By: Jeff Shattuck

DEMONS & SAINTS

My future was once wide open
I had my plans, I had my dreams
I was not yet broken
I thought I had whatever I could need

But life changes
Throws you curves
Asks you to live
For better or for worse
You make mistakes
You do some things wrong
You try to turn back
But you're too far gone
And you've got...

Too many demons and too few saints
To count your blessings or ever cut bait
I know, I know they say it’s never too late
But I've got too many demons and too few saints

And I remember when I was new
I had my faith, my beliefs
I told lies I thought were true
Some days I even felt at peace

But life changes
You lose your guide
You want so much
You're never satisfied
You try to stop
You try to turn back
But you're too far down
The wrong path
And you've got...

And still life changes
Throws you curves
Asks you to live
For better or for worse

It takes a toll
Little by little
Before you know it
Rome burns while you fiddle
And you've got...

Love & Hate

Love and Hate

So this is how it's going to be?
Me staring at you, you staring at me
A truce in our war of a words
A war I don't think either one of us heard

And outside there's a moon and wind
I walk through the park to where the light ends
I think about things I don't understand
And it's all I can do to return again

But it's just love and hate
Pushing and pulling like two soul mates
It's just love and hate
They live inside everybody's state
Of mind

And pride it goes before the fall
We're burning bridges, we're building walls
We're both trying way too hard to win
We don't even care what we win

And it's love and hate
Pushing and pulling like two soul mates
It's just love and hate
They live inside everybody's state
Of mind

And on the steps I take in the city
The lights are on but nothing is pretty
The air is clear, the stars look gold
The wind comes up and it's filled with cold

And the thought runs through my head
This could be how everything ends
Sitting on steps under starry skies
Wondering how best to say goodbye

But it's just love and hate
Pushing and pulling like two soul mates
It's just love and hate
And if you're feeling one, the other just waits
And it's love and hate
They live inside everybody's state
Of mind

Yo Yo

Written By: Jeff Shattuck

Yo Yo

Life picks me up
Then drops me down
And I don't see any method to the madness

I try to be tough
I try to act like a clown
I try to keep from falling back into sadness

I take long walks
I try to meditate
And I talk and talk
But even drugs can't change my state (of mind)

I am like a yo-yo
Rise and fall
I'm just a yo-yo
I don't hold the string
I am like a yo-yo
Rise and fall
I'm just like a yo-yo
And these ups and downs make the world spin around me

Life gives me hope
Then leaves me twisting in the wind
And I can't see the rhyme or the reason

I try to cope
I try never to give in
But it's like trying to fight a change of seasons

And I play my guitar
I call a friend
I take a drive in the car
But the ups and downs they never end (for me)

And I walk the dog
And I sleep all morning long
I make things look alright even when they're all wrong

'Cause I know the tricks
Just like a childhood song
So rock me baby
Because there's something wrong (with me)

Water Under The Bridge

Written By: Jeff Shattuck

Water Under The Bridge

There are things we've said we should have left unsaid
And we have told some lies

And sometimes we know what should be unknown
And we have worn more than one disguise

So many words
So much still unheard
So much left to forgive
So many dreams deferred

We say it's water under the bridge
But the water is rising
Yes, it's water under the bridge
But the water is rising

And there are things we've done that can't be undone
We have to live with what we deny

So many regrets
So much to forget
So much to try to forgive
So many unpaid debts

We say it's water under under the bridge
But the water is rising
Yes, it's water under the bridge
But the water is rising
But the water is rising
But the water is rising up

And yet we stand where we are
After all we've come so far
It would be a shame to admit
We wished upon a fading star

And yet we stand where we are
After all we've come so far
And we both know so well (that the)
Dreams can die way too hard

Waitress Blues

WAITRESS BLUES

“I went home with the waitress
the way I always do...” - Warren Zevon

The coffee was cold
But the waitress was hot
I could say where I was
But I would rather not
Some things it’s just better
To try to forget
But as hard as a I try
I’ve not forgotten yet
The coffee was cold
But the waitress was hot
I could say where I was
But I would rather not

I could name the town
But that would not be wise
The memory plays tricks
And likes telling lies
With an old song’s words
Ringing in my head
I let the dark-eyed waitress
Take me home to her bed
I could name the town
But that would not be wise
The memory plays tricks
And it likes telling lies

In the morning I head
For god-knows-where
With my heart and my body
In need of repair
With her scent on my skin
And her voice in my head
And my youth left dying
On her unmade bed
In the morning I head
For god-knows-where
With my heart and my body
In need of repair

The coffee was cold
But the waitress was hot
I could say where I was
But I...

Borderline Love

BORDERLINE LOVE
(Dave Tutin, words; Jeff Shattuck, music)

You say you’re leaving
That things just don’t seem right
You blame my past
You blame my appetite

But there’s fire in your eyes as you head for the door...

Like me you want more
Like me you want more
Like me you want more
of this borderline love

You say you’re leaving
I always thought you would
To lie to you now
Would simply do no good

And there’s one thing that I know for sure as you head for the door...

Like me you want more
Like me you want more
Like me you want more
of this borderline love

I was never quite yours
You were never quite mine
We were living
we were loving
On the borderline

And there’s one thing that I know for sure as you head for the door...

Like me you want more
Like me you want more
of this borderline love
