Bio

Jeff Stephens music has often been described and characterized by his thought provoking lyrics and that unique voice that makes his music honest. His performances have left audiences wowed and moved by the pure emotion that has come to define him. As a co founder, writer and member of the now defunct Orchard Thieves, Stephens honed his skills and versatility as a songwriter, and learned to play in and with a band. Now stepping out on his own, the vision is his, and the songs hit home with lyrics and melodies that endure. The poignancy of his songwriting is evident in the new 5 song demo produced by Russ Desalvo that boasts a timeless, trendless quality that will leave the listener thinking and humming and wanting to play it all over again. Also featured on the EP, legendary musicians Frank Vilardi on percussion, Patrick Carroll on bass and Russ Desalvo on guitars.

Stephens family had roots in Pittsburgh PA where he was born. His family moved to Florida and then up to New York where they settled and where he proudly calls home. While in New York he co founded a band called The Orchard Thieves who gained some notoriety playing in Manhattan in clubs like, Sin-e, The Village Underground, Arlene's Grocery and the famed Bitter End where Dylan first played in Manhattan. At a young age, Stephens was drawn to music, endlessly playing the Beatles "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". That began a voracious appetite for music that has continued to this day. Stephens songs hit you in the gut. They ease in slowly and build to points of exaltation, elation and heartbreak, however, they never lose sight of the road they travel on. The lyrics are woven in a way that on paper they could be Poetry, but as a song matched with beautiful melodies and vocals they soar to a different place, while at the same time, coming from a place that everyone's been to.
