Shadow of a Doubt

Written By: Jeff Stillman

It was a little thing
I probably shouldn't pay it attention
It probably shouldn't even be mentioned
But I'll say it anyway
I asked her "How long
Do you think that we'll be together?"
She answered me "Forever"
And smiled in her way
But in her sky blue eyes, there was a hint of cloud
And it looked just like a shadow of a doubt

Well, I saw her today
She was off in the distance
With a high school acquaintance
Just a little too close
I watched them walking
She brushed his arm so slightly
Laughing with him lightly
It wasn't much, I know
But a coldness and a darkness fell upon me like a shroud
It felt just like a shadow of a doubt

Oh...
I know it's foolish
I know it's crazy
I know it's wrong
But the shadow keeps on growing
Growing...

I want to believe
Believe when she says forever
That it really means forever
Forever with me
'Cause this love is strong
It's burning brighter than sunlight
It's the kind of light that's unlike
Any light that I've seen
But how easy it is to put that light right out
It only takes a shadow of a doubt

Don't let me let her go, don't let me lose her now
Don't let me lose her to a shadow of a doubt

Oh, that shadow...
Mmm, that shadow...
Of a doubt...

Population 216

Written By: Jeff Stillman

There's a town -- a little lakeside town called Padenville
There's a sign that they got on the courthouse lawn
Says "215" -- for every woman, child and man there
But there's a line through the five that's been spray painted on
And by that line through the five sprayed in fire engine red
That same someone went and wrote a six instead

Now the sign says "Welcome -- Welcome to Padenvile"
"Where Life is so Sweet"
Yeah the sign says "Welcome -- Welcome to Padenville"
"Population 216"

There's a can -- a can of spray paint in my pocket
And I know they're gonna figure out it's me
And they won't be too happy at the courthouse
But some day I'll pay, just you wait and see
Oh but how could I be blamed when you'd do the same yourself?
Oh believe me, if you felt the way I felt

Now the sign says "Welcome -- Welcome to Padenvile"
"Where Life is so Sweet"
Yeah the sign says "Welcome -- Welcome to Padenville"
"Population 216"

'Cause look at that little pink blanket
Look at those little cute hands
And the name on the little wristband that says she's mine
I hold her up to the nursery window so she can see the sign

And the sign says "Welcome -- Welcome to Padenvile"
And oh... ain't she sweet?
Yeah the sign says "Welcome -- Welcome to Padenville"
"Population 216"
