Biography Jelka van Houten
Jelka van Houten (1978) is a Dutch actress and singer. In 2012 she stars in the road movie JACKIE with her sister Carice van Houten (GAME OF THRONES, BLACK BOOK) and Oscar winner Holly Hunter. Besides playing the lead role, Jelka has written and performed three songs for JACKIE as well.
Jelka won several awards, including two prestigious Musical Awards, for her stunning break through performance in the musical TURKISH DELIGHT, based on the bestselling novel by legendary Dutch author Jan Wolkers. In 2010 she was awarded another Musical Award, for her role in DREAMS ... ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM.
Jelline Floriska van Houten was born on September 1 (1978) in Culemborg. Being the youngest daughter in a creative family, she demonstrated her acting skills at a young age. She sings in several bands and plays roles in several film and television productions, including BITCHES, DENNIS P., SHOUF SHOUF!, SUMMER HEAT and the internationally acclaimed short film RAAK (international title: CONTACT) directed by Hanro Smitsman. CONTACT won the Golden Bear for best short film winner at Berlinale German film festival, one of the most important international film festivals in the world.
She plays roles in several Dutch television series such as THE SHEEP WITH 5 LEGS, a successful remake of a legendary Dutch tv series from the '60s, and the third season of the hit series VERBORGEN GEBREKEN (HIDDEN DEFECTS).
Amongst Jelkas upcoming projects are JACKIE and THE DOMINO EFFECT, on the impact of the credit crisis, directed by Paula van der Oest (Oscar Nominated ZUS & ZO, BLACK BUTTERFLIES).
