Bio
J. Elliott is a singer/songwriter from Indianapolis, IN. After picking up the guitar at age 12, Elliott quickly formed a rock band with his friends and began playing acoustic solo shows at coffeehouses, parties, restaurants and bars (at least the ones that didn’t mind a teenager hanging out in the kitchen between sets). The band eventually turned into ‘Stereo Deluxe’ (3-time Nuvo Newsweekly ‘Best Rock Band’ 2009-2011, 2005 Patio Indy Battle of the Bands Winner); and the solo shows turned into a lifelong habit/occupation.
While Stereo Deluxe is currently dormant, Elliott has continued writing songs and performing as a solo artist. Stylistically, the songs range from mellow Americana ballads to aggressive psych-rock barn-burners. By augmenting the typical one guitar/one microphone setup with an additional effected mic and a series of electrified guitar sounds, Elliott pulls from a more dynamic and interesting sonic palette than what you might expect from a solo acoustic act.
In 2016, Elliott teamed up with Ryan Koch (producer/drummer/multi-instrumentalist) to begin recording tunes for a solo release. For live performances, Koch often joins on drums, percussion and backing vocals to create a sound that's suspiciously big to be coming from a duo.
In December of 2016, Elliott released the single 'Highway Miles' via iTunes, Bandcamp and Spotify. Follow-ups 'She's an Outlaw' and 'With the Lord in Her Heart' followed in early 2017 in an effort to continuously be putting new original material.
