Jenifer’s story can be told with one photograph. In it, a little girl is sitting on her grandmother’s kitchen floor, strumming a tiny guitar. It’s hard to say if she’s smiling or if she’s singing, but without a doubt, music lights her face up.

It can be fun to imagine Jenifer from her cradle, crying in harmony, to the beat of her own tiny hearth. For sure, she pricked up her ears to all sounds, showing an infinite curiosity. And a strong soul independence also. When she values something, Jenifer gets to it, sooner or later.

While in college, Jenifer Aubry is part of anything that has to do with acting or singing. At 17, she enters St-Hyacinthe theatre school. It’s there, during her third year, that she compose her “first real song”, called Retour Éternel. Positive response wasn’t a long time coming : Jenifer won the national final of Cegep en Spectacle contest and was invited in France to sing in different festivals !

At the end of the year, the artist was in Japan for three weeks to take part in a Christmas show. Back in Canada, the television world welcomes her when she wins a role in the Montreal prime time soap Chambres en ville. For two seasons, two million viewers knew her as Charlotte.

At that time, Normand Piché, a man she knew from school, came back into her life. His contagious enthusiasm feeds Jenifer’s artistic projects. From the 2 of them began a very strong partnership thanks to which they will dream, but will also achieve their goals. She spreads slowly but surely the wings of a greatly talented artist while he takes care of her career and brings their young musical visions to life.

In 1997, Jenifer wins the role of Maureen in the acclaimed musical Rent. It was the first Canadian distribution of the extraordinary Broadway show, which received the Pulitzer Award for Drama as well as many Tony Awards. The experience is an opportunity for the artist to combine her two passions : acting and singing.

Was released, shortly after, her debut EP Duneland (1998), a recording that slowly draws an isolated land, flood by sun, where the heart is free. The EP climbed to the top of the HMV indie charts in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver (a touched up version of Duneland was released in 2002). In between, Jenifer Aubry increases the artistic experiences. In 1999, she packs up her stuff for a singular street tour. On board in a brightly coloured bus, the singer and a few musicians went across Canada during four months, playing in parks, beaches and everywhere possible. Everytime, the audience is bewitched by her powerful and authentic voice. Result : about 60 presentations across the country and a huge quantity of albums sold.

In 2000, Jenifer devotes most of her time to writing. A new theme appears in her work : the magic of life. Indeed, she just gave birth to a little girl, Kynamoon. Then begins a period she calls “sabbatical” during which Jenifer starts everything over and draws the basic lines of a new album. With Normand, she lives like a bohemian, “3 months here, 3 months there”. A living style they inherit from the “street tour”… which didn’t stop Jenifer from being part of a musical review at Hull Casino and joins the “Five Women Show” for a Quebec tour.

In April 2002, Jenifer Aubry gives the first show of a stretch at le Quai des Brumes, in Montreal. Announced for a few concerts, the singer finally stayed there for 9 weeks, playing in front of an enthusiastic crowd. At fall, she will present another stretch of shows, this time in Montreal and Toronto. This will be the second part of a work in progress leading to the new album, to be released in 2003. An album that can be presented as a main meal after Duneland.

Today, the stars align for Jenifer Aubry. From now on, surrounded by a high qualified crew, Jenifer has already covered a wide part to the land seen in dreams, but one thing hasn’t changed : in her voice, we still hear the same thirst for music, the same sunny fervour.
Sometime in 2003, the Montreal singer Jenifer Aubry will open a new chapter in her career.

With the launch of an upcoming album called Bubble, the artist is determined to explore new territories.
