"EXCLUSIVE TRACK PREMIERE: "DUST" BY JENNA KYLE"

Memories and dreams are endless sources of nostalgia. Both poignant and private, the feelings they evoke are unique, and for New York-based singer-songwriter Jenna Kyle, they are also an infinite source of content from which she derives music. Kyle’s newest track, the ethereal “Dust,” which premieres exclusively below, stems from that very wistfulness and, fittingly, arrived while Kyle was asleep.

“I wrote the initial verse and chorus of ‘Dust’ in one sitting at 5 A.M. when I woke up with the melody and lyrics running through my head,” Kyle recalls. “I had to get up and record it on my voice memos on my phone.” More than merely a fit of early morning creativity, the song stuck; the next day she added verses and worked on the chords, and in the following months she performed it throughout her travels, continuing to develop it before deciding to produce it.

For Kyle, “Dust” is ultimately about the struggle to remain present. The lyrics (“You make me feel like a star / And I’m lost in your endless night”), combined with a surreal mixture of synth beats and her melodic voice, convey a sense of living inside a reverie. “It’s sort of like when you wake up from a beautiful dream and want to drop back into that world,” says Kyle. “But can’t fall back asleep, and you really need to go get up and face reality. You can never really go back.” - INTERVIEW MAGAZINE

"Jenna Kyle Shares “Paths” Music Video"

by Alex Rago

NYC’s Jenna Kyle released her very danceable new single “Paths” earlier this year, and today we are graced with her visually stunning video. It features custom wardrobe (!) and so much of what we’ve come to know Jenna Kyle for – STYLE. The song and overall vibe bring us back to the days of Telepopmusik, with remnants of Lana Del Rey, Elohim, and Lorde mixed in.

The young electro-pop artist burst onto the scene in 2017 with her singles “Dust,” “Lovelorn,” and “Summer With You,” taking Spotify by storm and racking up hundreds of thousands of streams in a very short time.

“‘Paths’ has been many things to me,” Jenna explains. “Especially a meditation on my ups and downs, regret, hope, growth, and an attempt at owning some of this. We’re chasing an ever-changing frontier of longing. The moment we think we have it figured out, the rug gets pulled out from under us.”

In support of the new video, Jenna will host a release party at the very cool Kinfolk 94 in Brooklyn this Saturday, December 15th. The event is free but does require tickets which can be obtained HERE. Check out the “Paths” official music video below.

DESCRIPTION

Jenna Kyle is an American singer-songwriter and musician based out of New York City.

Kyle released her debut single, “Dust” in January 2017 which generated quite the buzz for the new artist. Interview Magazine premiered the track, calling it “ethereal… captivating”. The song was quickly picked up by Spotify’s “Fresh Finds” and “Indie Pop Chillout” playlists, and reached #25 on the US and Canadian “50 Top Viral” playlists.

Kyle’s second single, Lovelorn, produced by collaborator DJ / Producer BAILE was released in February, and was featured on The Line Of Best Fit, DASH Radio, and Indietronica. Kyle has also been a featured vocalist on BAILE’s music.

Jenna Kyle’s latest release, “Summer With You” is a fun downtempo collaboration with producer / DJ Wes James (Le Youth). Written in James’ Venice Beach studio, “Summer With You” emerged as a homage to Kyle’s native California and a resolve to live in the present and to being true to oneself. The song comes accompanied by an Official Music Video, which was filmed in a weekend between picturesque Lake George in upstate New York, and Manhattan.

In addition to writing and producing her music, Kyle continues to collaborate with heavy hitters in the electronic world as a featured vocalist and songwriter.

Jenna Kyle exemplifies a new strand of ethereal R&B blended with Indie -Electronica to create thoughtful, emotive art pop.
Background

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, California Jenna Kyle was raised by music-loving parents with the radio - or a record - constantly on. Everything from James Taylor, Earth Wind and Fire, Pink Floyd, and Nina Simone. These childhood influences, along with a love of 90's R&B, electronic soundscapes, minimal house music, meditation and durational performance art all lend to her inspiration and her sound that transcends traditional pop.

After moving to New York, Jenna was a featured musician and performer in Temporary Distortion’s acclaimed performance art installation, “My Voice Has An Echo In It,” a haunting 6-hour, mixed media saga, within which Kyle moves unexpectedly between vocals, keyboard and drums. "Echo" has been featured in the NY Times, American Theatre Magazine, at the PS122 festival in 2015 and held residency at Robert Wilson's Water Mill Center in 2016.

Jenna Kyle’s original song, “Keep Moving On,” was selected by the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI) for their 2014 National Fall campaign #iwillisten. - Paste Magazine

"Jenna Kyle is lovesick on R&B-infused glitch-pop single “Lovelorn”"

New York singer-songwriter Jenna Kyle follows up debut single "Dust" with the dark electronic draw of new track "Lovelorn".

Having already been likened to the upper echelons of dark-pop, BANKS, Tove Lo and Lana Del Rey, Kyle has a lot to live up to, but "Lovelorn" is certainly on its way. Citing Pink Floyd and Nina Simone as the backbone of her influences, with James Blake and Bonobo coming into play as her modern musical icons, Kyle's eclectic taste grounds her sound in a rich space of musical crossover.

Speaking about the track, Kyle tells us"[it] is the beautiful collision of falling in love. A fantasy about getting lost together on some gorgeous deserted island." On that path to falling in love, which is often not smooth or simple, Kyle explains "we try to let ourselves fall, let the world disappear and just be. This is texturally juxtaposed with the dissonance we feel as we teeter on codependence."

"Lovelorn" is out 17 February. - THE LINE OF BEST FIT

"Stream Jenna Kyle's new track 'Summer With You' [405 Premiere]"

There's a Californian brightness to it all.

Californian turned New Yorker Jenna Kyle is here to set your mood right. The singer-songwriter has a style that blends electronic flourishes with R&B sensibilities, which makes for dream pop with a danceable backbone.

Her latest track 'Summer With You' - which we're premiering today - has a Californian brightness to it all. It's not glittery but it does shimmer.

I caught up with Jenna Kyle to get to know her a little better and discuss her new single. So, while you listen and get your mood back on the right path, get to know Jenna Kyle a little better. You're going to be hearing her a lot more from her in the near future.

Growing up, what bands/artists stuck with you? Do you think being from California affected that?
Growing up I fell in love with great jazz singers - Etta James, Nina Simone - but I also listened to Sublime and Radiohead. Being from California absolutely affected the music I listened to - Slightly Stoopid, Mac Dre. Most of my favourite memories - especially summertime, driving around with the windows down - are all infused with music.

You are currently in NYC. How has that affected the partnerships and collaborations you've had in the electronic music scene?
I've been living in NYC for 8 years now, and I've met some of my best friends and collaborators out here. I think the vibrant night life is unique and allows for a bit of edge. People are doing really artistic and unique things and differentiating themselves.

'Summer With You' was written in California. Do you find physical location helps or hinders your writing process?
I am very affected by my surroundings. Being somewhere new usually leads to new results - for painters they might do this by switching from acrylic to watercolour - the time it takes to dry changes the process entirely. I might do that with a new keyboard or plugin, or new surroundings with new collaborators. I think a lot of people are like me, when they're about to have a break through things get a little shaky and they want to reach for something familiar, so removing a stable environment can push you into a new mindset.

What is your favourite part of the songwriting process?
It's different for each song; but, with 'Summer With You', I enjoyed collaborating with Wes [Wes James of Le Youth] and fusing our ideas. In general, once the stream-of-consciousness-style lyrics get pared down and develop a melody that feels right, things get exciting.

As you keep growing and gaining success, who is one producer/ artist you really hope to collaborate with?
Just one? I'd love to try something out with Bob Moses. It would also be a dream to collaborate with Bonobo. - THE 405
