Jenna Loren

Jenna has been living in Victoria, BC for almost 6 years after moving from her hometown of Peterborough, Ontario. She has been singing, writing songs and rocking out on her guitar since she was just 13 years old. Having written and performed over 50 songs of her own, Jenna’s compositions are full of rhythmic intensity, disjointed cadences, and metronome timing. Her voice is unhinged, and her phrasing just right, cascading through the air and demanding attention. Jenna’s lyrics are poetic, and shout to be heard. Very concerned with world issues, Jenna expresses her environmental-political views through her music. In high school, Jenna focused on social justice, playing a key role in the creation of the No Sweatshop Policy for her school district, and fundraised for an electric generator for a school in Sierra Leone. Jenna now has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Victoria in Geography and Environmental Studies. In 2005, Jenna independently produced her first CD, Overabundantly. In more recent years, Jenna has had the pleasure of performing on two National TV Shows, The New Canoe and MYTV. As a 24 year-old singer songwriter of 11 years, many people have influenced my music throughout my life. I first learned to play guitar and sing when my best friend Katrina taught me to play an Ani Difranco song. Musician’s that played a key role in shaping my music include not only Ani, but also Alanis Morissette, Jewel, Sheryl Crowe, Tracy Chapman and Sarah McLachlan. My music has also been inspired by amazing UVic professors and incredible authors of various books and publications I’ve read. And I can’t forget the endless support of my friends and family, who have always been my biggest fans. But most of all, I feel that my music has had its greatest impact from the talents genetically passed down to me from my Mother, Michelle Loren, in combination with her ongoing encouragement. She is a woman who has never been afraid to pick up a guitar and play, and has always wowed those around her with her unbelievable ability to sing. I will always strive to be more like my Mother, and to make her proud of me.
