Bio
Imagine a 1980's influenced folk/pop singer-songwriter with a powerful soprano voice and Crowded House-style melodies pulsating through her viens. You've just visualized Vancouver indie artist Jenn Barrett.
At the age of twelve Jenn committed to an intense musical journey...six years of classical voice training. While singing ethereal melodies she daydreamed of revealing her own creative voice in dark nightclubs and coffeehouses. At the age of fourteen she mustered up enough courage to dig out her Dad's acoustic guitar from the basement and officially write her first song.
Jenn started her career by singing backing vocals for Nettwerk bands Moev and Grapes of Wrath and her angelic soprano can be found on the song Light Your Eyes by Canon Heath Down.
Jenn then focused on studying guitar with Kevin Kane (Grapes of Wrath) and Luke Doucet (Sarah McLachlan, Chantal Kreviazuk and Veal). She again made a foray into singing backing vocals for Vancouver singer-songwriter Myk Gordon all the while developing her solo act and her repetoire. She co-wrote a powerful mantra song Celebrate with the multi-talented Mary Ancheta and found an amazing group of musicians to support her live show.
Currently Jenn is busy performing shows, writing and recording at home and recently announced the completion of her Jenn Barrett Live CD. A collection of 6 acoustic solo tracks and a re-mix of the song Escape. Samples can be found on the music page.
