"Heart Disease Survivor Sings National Anthem For Cyclones at Home Game"

CONEY ISLAND — On Tuesday evening at Keyspan Park, singer Jenn Costantino plans to make the national anthem especially “heartfelt” by bringing awareness to the fact that heart disease and stroke are the country’s number one and three killers, respectively.

Both a heart-disease survivor and budding recording artist, Costantino will sing the anthem as the Brooklyn Cyclones take on the Vermont Lake Monsters.

She sees this as an opportunity not only to highlight the importance of being proactive with respect to heart health, but also to serve as a sign of hope for those who have experienced heart disease.

Costantino had battery replacement surgery on her pacemaker exactly three weeks ago and just finished recording her first album.

“If I’m here singing the national anthem, or even able to record an album, others can follow their dreams, too — no matter the obstacles,” she says.

An artist in many ways, Costantino graduated from Parsons School of Design with a BFA in fashion before turning to singing. She has appeared in various TV spots including Ed and Law & Order.

Costantino was born in Brooklyn, where her grandfather, Federal Judge Mark A. Costantino, had his chambers. Her mother is the superintendent of Brooklyn school district 20, which includes Bay Ridge and surrounding neighborhoods. Although now living in Manhattan, Costantino calls Brooklyn her favorite borough.

The Brooklyn Cyclones have joined forces with the American Heart Association (AHA) in an effort to educate the Brooklyn borough where cardiovascular disease and stroke have a significant stronghold. Statistically, blacks and Hispanics have an increased risk of suffering both cardiovascular illnesses, and combined, the two groups account for more than half of the borough’s population, according to 2005-2007 American Community Survey estimates.

“Heart disease is something that has touched us all in one way or another,” said Cyclones General Manager Steven Cohen. “The Cyclones are proud to partner with the American Heart Association. Brooklyn fans are vigorous in their loyalty and support of our team, and we expect that they will lend that same passion to a truly worthy cause.”

The event supports the inaugural Brooklyn Start! Heart Walk on Oct. 11 in Prospect Park. The walk, which is part of the larger Start! movement from the AHA, encourages activity as a means to live longer, more heart-healthy lives. For more information visit americanheart.org.

On November 17 the world will received a gift straight from the heart of Jenn Costantino in her Debut album, The Best Part Of Me.

Her rich voice is as golden as her hair, as stunning as her blues eyes and as warm as her heart.

A native New Yorker and Parsons School of Design graduate, Jenn love for fashion quickly gave way to her passion for
music.

Jenn has studied acting as well and has had a few appearances on the television series of Ed and Law and Order, and has worked on several projects for MTV.

Through her contact with Brianna Taylor of Real World on My Space, Jenn discovered music producer Tomas Costanza. After Tomas heard some of Jenn's music, he invited her out to LA to work on a EP. The EP was barely completed when Tomas asked for a full album.

Jenn flew back to New York and hired one of the best vocal coaches in the business, Katie Agresta, who has coached Cindy Lauper and Anne Lennox to name a few. Katie took Jenn's ability and gave it depth, so much so the original 5 songs had to be re-recorded. " The difference was tremendous' laughed Jenn, "with Katie, my voice has become much fuller. Between Katie and Tomas I know 'The Best Part Of Me' will do well. I am blessed to have them."

Jenn is blessed herself. Jenn was born with a heart defect that has lead to 4 surgeries, the last one after recording the last song for her album to replace the battery in her pacemaker. "We joke that I just ran the battery out," Jenn laughed.

Three weeks later she performed the National Anthem at the Brooklyn Cyclones ballgame.

That was an honor for Jenn, not only because it for the American Heart Association, but it was the National Anthem at a Baseball Game and she is an avid fan of the game. " I do a lot of work with the "Go Red For Women" campaign of the Heart Association. I even was the "poster Child' of sorts" Jenn giggled "They made me into a larger than life poster! I also had the honor of performing at the Red Ball Gala." One thing for sure, is her condition doesn't slow her down.
"I called the album "The Best Part Of Me" because it is. To succeed in anything you have to throw your whole heart into it. Whether its your family, or your career, no matter what, you have to give it all you got, including your heart" Jenn added " I am lucky to come from a predominately
Italian family, and Italians are just naturally passionate about things. I need to thank my family, for without their love and understanding, this album never could have been." - Susan Leak , The Associated Content

On November 17, you will be able to take that golden voice with you on her Debut album, "The Best Part Of Me" from iTunes. With the help of producer Tomas Costanza and vocal coach Katie Agresta, The Best Part of Me is one of the finest albums to come out this year.

"With Katie (as her coach), my voice has become much fuller. Between Katie and Tomas I know 'The Best Part Of Me' will do well. I am blessed to have them."

A ten song set, which Jenn wrote seven of, offers you a look into Jenn’s heart and into yours as well.
"It truly is the 'Best Part Of Me'... I poured my heart into it."

Heart is what Jenn is all about in her spare time as well. She has devoted countless hours to the 'Go Red For Women" campaign for the Heart Association. She is a Heart Disease survivor herself, she has undergone 4 operations, the last one to replace the battery in her pacemaker, soon after completion of recording. "We joke that I ran the battery down," Jenn laughed.
Three weeks later she performed the National Anthem at the Brooklyn Cyclones ballgame.

Jenn does not view her heart condition as a handicap. " I am proof that people can lead productive lives with a pacemaker" If you talk to Jenn, you know that is true. She is upbeat, bubbly, full of life and laughter.

"Right now the album is only on iTunes, but soon it will be released on CD as well. We are in the final stages of designing the cover." Jenn promised.

The Best Part of Me is soulful, sultry with Pop overtones. Growing up listening to Madonna, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey has definitely influenced Jenn’s musical styling. She also is a big fan of Alicia Keys.

Now that it is done, what’s next? "I am going to be doing some live performing". says Jenn, " Acoustic style with a guitar accompaniment. We did that for the Heart Association's 'Red Ball' and it went very well".

To find out more about the golden girl with the golden voice, stop by her myspace and listen to her songs. She will win over your heart. but don't worry...she knows it's the best part of you. - Susan Leak , The Examiner.com

Bio

Singer/songwriter Jenn Costantino is proud to announce the release of her debut album “The Best Part of Me.”

A native of New York City, Jenn graduated from Parson’s School of Design with a BFA in Fashion before she began her career in the entertainment industry. But before making the full commitment to pursuing her dreams of rock stardom, Jenn also studied acting and made appearances on the television series “Ed” and “Law & Order,” as well as several projects on the MTV network.

It would ultimately be meeting MTV’s “The Real World” star Brianna Taylor that would lead Jenn to producer Tomas Costanza. Jenn contacted Tomas through Brianna’s MySpace page asking him to listen to music she had previously recorded. It wasn’t long before Tomas asked her if she was looking for a new producer – and the rest, so they say, is history. The two connected in NYC before deciding that Jenn should fly to Los Angeles to work on an EP.

After receiving positive feedback on 5 songs they recorded, Jenn and Tomas decided to collaborate on a full-length album. In the interim before heading back to the studio, Jenn composed new material and switched vocal coaches to Katie Agresta who has helped launch the careers of Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lenox, and Courtney Love, amongst others. Jenn’s enhanced vocal strength resulted in the re-recording of the original 5 tracks.

The album’s title song, “The Best Part of Me,” comes from a deeply personal place – Jenn’s struggle with a heart condition that she has combated and conquered since childhood. But she has never seen it as a hindrance or reason for pity; inversely, it is her ultimate source of motivation.

“The entire process of writing and recording this album has been the most intense and fulfilling experience I’ve ever had,” Jenn says. “I learned so much about myself as an artist and a person, and my music comes from deep within my heart on many different levels.” That is the very heart and soul of “The Best Part of Me,” the best part of Jenn Costantino.
