The latest pop song to be appropriated/massacred (depending on your point of view) for the commercial dance market is Paul McCartney's composition Silly Love Songs. This vocal arrangement, performed here by Philippino Jenn Cuneta, has the writer's blessing, and can lay claim to being the first of his songs to be treated in this way.

Those familiar with Positiva's output will recognise familiar features in the bouncy bass line, a sprightly, lite-house rhythm, and a "come rain, come shine" hook, all, of course, in the name of a good dance. Andy & The Lamboy share writing credits with Sir Paul, and are responsible for the radio edit. Meanwhile mixes from Stonebridge and Patrick Alavi introduce a firmly pointed piano/bass riff and a full-bodied, funky bass respectively for the club crowd.

One thing's for sure - Cuneta has a voice perfectly suited to commercial or underground club music, and has a vehicle here to pitch her firmly towards the charts.

Paul McCartney's "Silly Love Songs" riff gets almost everyone's attention when Jen Cuneta's new track "Come Rain Come Shine" plays. Here, the extended mix and the radio mix are included.

Cuneta's voice is great in a blue-eyed soul kind of way. This is an incredible hooky song here, especially with McCartney's music in the mix. If you're like me, initially, you want to hear the vocals that originally went with the music. After a few listens, however, Cuneta's vocals and lyrics prove to be good, and the retro-sampling simply adds a warm and fuzzy effect.

Although there are other, harder mixes of this song out- you really can't do much better than the original because it massages the old McCartney riffs so well. I think they big idea of this track is the sample, and the harder mixes just don't focus on the samples. "Come Rain, Come Shine" was one of those tracks that makes you wonder why didn't this cross over to be a huge pop record? Produced by Andy and the Lamboy with a sample from a classic McCartney, the song was amazing and stood as the perfect launch pad for the exuberant and vocally gifted Jenn Cuneta. "I Want That Man" is a little more typical of the tribal sound with Jenn stepping into the role of wailing diva, a role she plays well, commanding the attention of a guy she fancies.
