Biography

Jennifer Clarke is Ireland's newest and hottest rising star. A graduate of the Music, Management and Sound course at Ireland's own Rock School - Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa - Jennifer and her music have already been met with critical acclaim and taken the airwaves by storm. Her debut single 'Right Back At The Start', which was launched by singer/songwriter Sinéad Lohan of 'A Woman's Heart' fame, was play-listed by over twenty radio stations around the country and received rave reviews from 'Hot Press Magazine' and 'The Irish Examiner'. The single, recorded by Ireland's most renowned producer Declan Sinnott, was co-written by Jennifer and Chris Ahern. It immediately generated huge interest, resulting in her playing Special Guest to Ronan Keating at the Marquee, Cork in 2005, at '02 in the Park', Dublin and securing a national distribution deal with RMG Chart Records where the single went straight to number 2 in the Bestsellers Chart. Jennifer's second release 'It's Alright' outdid its predecessor with airplay and was part of WLR FM's 'Power Play'. 2006 was a busy year for Jennifer having been signed to American music impresario Mike Maska, whose roster includes the legendary Joe Jackson, as well as setting up her own record label JMC Music. Under this label she has just finished working on her debut album with producer Bruce Brody (Pulp Fiction, Maria McKee, Patti Smith, U2 Elevation Tour). The eponymous album was recorded between Dublin and New York studios and features the talents of guitarist Gus Isidore (Seal, Phil Lynott, Peter Gabriel), bassist Nick Seymour (Crowded House) and drummer Christian Eigner (Depeche Mode), as well as Jennifer's own piano and guitar playing. It is a collection of self-penned and co-written songs, which Jennifer describes as 'my take on the world!' and was mastered by Sterling Sound, New York. She recently made her television debut on RTÉ's Seoige and O'Shea, where she discussed the album with talk show hosts Gráinne Seoige and Joe O'Shea and performed a song taken from it. The album has already received a spate of media coverage in national publications 'The Irish Examiner', 'The Irish Sun' and 'The Daily Mail' and will be released in 2007. Her influences come from a wide range of music including artists such as James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Alison Krauss, Suzanne Vega, KT Tunstall, Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin and the Dixie Chicks. Jennifer is no stranger to the stage and has been performing regularly for the past two years in venues such as The Lobby, Triskel Arts Centre, Cyprus Avenue, Cork City Hall, the Galway Film Festival, the Hilfiger Sessions in Crawdaddy, Dublin, the Marquee, '02 in the Park', Phoenix Park and The Cutting Room, New York. Jennifer's single 'It's Alright' is available at Virgin Megastore and HMV, Cork and online at www.cdbaby.com.

Lyrics

It's Alright

Written By: Jennifer Clarke and Chris Ahern

You spend your life making money making time
Looking for the dream
But there's nothing in it
It's darker than it seems
When you're so close you can't see

You give your love til it wears your heart away
Like water onto stone
And when your colours
Start fading in the sun
It's a part of you that you never owned

Take a step back from the edge
Take a look back through your life
At every move that brought you here
And slowly covered up your light
It's alright

It's funny how, when you look back at it all
Burning anger like desire
You know its meaning
You understand its truth
And it's waiting turned to fire

Sins Out Of Me

Written By: Jennifer Clarke/ Bruce Brody/ Chris Ahern

Verse
All that we have been
Is getting clearer now
All the words in between
Have double meanings somehow

Pre-Chorus
I've been a slave for you
Afraid of you
Stayed with you cos I've been ashamed
Of all the things you've made me be

Chorus
You pull the sins out of me
Every dark and tainted dream
I live out your fantasies
But it's never what it seems
You pull the sins out of me

Verse
All that you have done
Is every scar on me
And I've been the hollow one
Addicted to your every need

Pre-Chorus
And in spite of me
I've tried to see
The side of me that needs you around
It's a poison that I feed on

Chorus
You pull the sins out of me
Every dark and tainted dream
I live out your fantasies
But it's never what it seems
Cos you pull the sins out of me

Bridge
It's getting dark out there
And you're moving in, you're creeping in
It's getting dark out there
You're turning me into a sin
It's getting dark out there
And you're moving in, you're creeping in
It's getting dark out there
You're turning me into a sin

Chorus
You pull the sins out of me
Every dark and tainted dream
I live out your fantasies
But it's never what it seems
Cos you pull the sins out of me

Closer

Written By: Jennifer Clarke and Bruce Brody

Closer
(Jennifer Clarke/Bruce Brody)

Verse
There used to be a time when I believed
Nothing would get close to you and me
I gave you every minute of my life
And you were there by my side completely

Verse
Now it's like we live in separate worlds
And I feel like I'm a different girl
You reach out and I'm getting hard to find
Or maybe I'm not on your mind anymore

Chorus
And we're getting closer now
So much closer now
Getting closer now
We're getting closer to the end

Verse
Now I'm only waiting for a sign
Oh will I ever know the time is right?
And even though we died along the way
I just don't wanna say goodbye

Chorus
But we're getting closer now
So much closer now
Getting closer now
We're getting closer to the end

Bridge
Tonight's between us like a weight
Should I go or should I stay?
I don't wanna do this anymore
No no no no no no no no

Chorus
Cos we're getting closer now
So much closer now
Getting closer now
We're getting closer to the end
We're getting closer to the end
We're getting closer to the end
