"Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange"

A review written for the Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange
by Mike Jurkovic

There is a term that bounces around pundit-land that is usually used with an indifferent or arrogant sigh. It can either stand alone or be surrounded by desultory qualifiers. The damning phrase is "Oh, such 'n such is just another girl with her guitar."

Well, not Jennifer Eden or her full length debut The Road Home. There's a girl and there's her guitar, but there's also a strong sense of purpose, artistry, and perhaps most importantly, integrity. The twelve originals on The Road Home employ strong contemporary stylings while echoing haunting ancient voices, as Eden displays a crisp vitality and fluid technique on both classical and nylon string guitars, creating a singular, introspective listening experience.

If I may offer one criticism: On future releases, I'm sincerely hoping Eden will consider other sparse instrumental accompaniment to highlight more of her melodic and harmonic intent. Maybe a second guitar playing counterpoint. Maybe a string quartet or stand alone cello, or violin. Either way, I look forward to more music from Jennifer Eden.

Higlights include: Erika, Annadale Station, Rebirth, and Valediction. - David N. Pyles

Bio

The Road Home is an introspective journey traveled by composer/guitarist Jennifer Eden. Each piece beckons you to voyage along with her through a soundscape of almost visual design. The album features nine acoustic and three nylon string original guitar compositions. It is a personal and uncontrived sharing of Jennifer’s story through this instrument.

Jennifer has what she refers to as an “insatiable desire to create” and although her debut album has just been released she is already putting together a second album. Aside from music, Jennifer is deeply involved in the martial arts and holds a third-degree black belt. She is also trying her hand at becoming an author and is in the midst of writing her first novel.

Jennifer holds a BS in guitar and composition. She presently resides in New Jersey, where she is a freelance guitar instructor. Aside from her solo endeavors Jennifer currently performs in a classical guitar and flute duo.
