"Disc of the week"

Jennifer Meade
self-titled (Samjam/Select)
Meade’s debut is a crisp blend of gospel and R&B that bends towards the former lyrically and the latter musically. The native Montrealer’s urgent delivery makes each song sound necessary, and frankly, tracks like the empowering “I Am” and the equally uplifting “In This Life” are truly worthy of Meade’s convincing vocal style. Though her sound is steeped in contemporary R&B, every once in a while she switches it up, throwing in a reggeton interlude, for example, during “I Love the Way U Do.” Meade clearly wants to walk the path blazed by contemporary gospel singers like Kirk Franklin and Yolanda Adams. This is a step in the right direction. 7.5/10 (Gerard Dee)

Canadian Soul/R'N'B Songstress Jennifer Meade brings another Hallmark gift to Canada, entitled Divine Conversation Vol I and Divine Conversation Vol. II.
These two CD contains twenty seven brand new songs. Nothing will prepare the public for the new and improved sound with a lead smash single like Live 2 Give right out the gate! It’s definitely a contemporary R&B club banger. In this cut, Jennifer Meade displays her dynamic voice range that’s unlike any other. A crisp blend of gospel and R&B, melding Hip-Hop, Pop, Funk, and Soul with Passion, Devotion and Conviction.
Divine Conversations Vol. I and Vol. II coins the new realm of music “Inspirational”. “These albums will transform you and strengthen you, being fruitful
in everything and increase your knowledge about yourself,” says Jennifer Meade.
“Just think of them as series of conversations with the holy spirit, set to music.” she adds, “In these albums I tell it all about purpose in life, self worth, love, wisdom and triumph.”

A Montreal native, Jennifer was raised in a christian family and began singing in the choir from the time she could speak. Meade recalls her father’s passion and love for music as her biggest influence, with the majority of the family’s musical tastes devoted to gospel music, but sometimes sprinkled with Elvis Presley and Jim Reeves. Her professional singing career effectively began forming the choir group
The Harmonettes at the age of 12. By age 15, Jennifer had caught the eye of CBC’s “Second Regard”, who chronicled Meade as a young prodigious choir director.
But it was her work with the group Touch of Heaven that truly opened her eyes to branches of international music. Though success in both groups had garnered her some valuable experience and awareness within the genre, Meade credits her faith
as a big part of her success. “It’s my passion for music, and blessings of the Lord that puts me in the right place at the right time,” she says.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, and CeCe Winans, Jennifer Meade delivers the passionate and uplifting message of her soul roots mixed with a fresh take on the R&B genre which she describes as “inspirational R&B”.
Meade wrote the lyrics and vocal melodies herself, a virtue not typical of some of today’s pop and R&B artists. “It’s a very emotional gut wrenching quality that comes through – a very soulful cry,” says Meade. The smooth and sultry nature of her tone
is uniquely hers, and immediately recognizable.
