Jennifer Morrison

I was born and raised in the beautiful and eclectic city of Austin, Texas. No matter where I have traveled since, the unique and artistic culture of the "Live Music Capital of the World" follows me and shapes who I am. It always will. According to my mom, I have been singing since before I could talk. I started playing the piano at a very young age, but soon switched to the violin, which I played for about seven years until I discovered the guitar. On my 13th birthday, I received my first guitar, and I knew that I had found my place. Although I've been writing songs since middle school, I think I'm only just now reaching the point where I am proud of my music and I have found a style that fits me.

That being said, I never have a good answer for someone who asks me what genre my music belongs in. I'm not sure I really fit into one genre, so my response is usually something like "you'll just have to listen to me play and let me know what you think," or "blues/pop/folk/rock." I guess one reason I don't fit into a category is that my taste in music is so diverse. My musical influences range from the Indigo Girls, Joni Mitchell, Nickel Creek, Nanci Griffith, Tommy Emmanuel, and Eva Cassidy to Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, B.B. King, and just about everything in between.

My goal as I write songs and play music is that I will be able to incorporate all different styles of music. I have found that wherever I go, music is the ultimate connection between us all, no matter what our culture and background might be. I believe that music has the ability to transcend cultural lines and divisions, and I would like to be able to write music that brings all kinds of people together.

I also write songs from my own experiences, almost always telling the story of what I'm dealing with at that moment. I want to write songs that people can relate to, even if their experience was not the same as mine. I've been told that my soul comes out clearly in my voice when I sing, and I guess that's all I can do is put myself out there for people to decide if they will listen or not.
