Bio

Jenny Allen began her career singing in folk clubs and lounges in her hometown of Calgary, Alberta at the age of sixteen. She first started playing the piano at the age of six and guitar by the age of seven. By 1983, Jenny moved to Vancouver and began playing up and down the western coast.

In 1991 she released her debut CD, Something to Say. Produced by Valdy, it recieved critical acclaim and resulted in invitations to major festivals both in Canada and the U.S. as well as opening sets for Taj Mahal and Shawn Colvin. Jenny performs with a breezy self-assurance and a clear-eyed directness that allows her natural sincerity to deeply and wholeheartedly communicate with her audience.

Jenny swings effortlessly between a variety of styles such as blues, pop, rock, roots and folk. Her writing is from a personal point of view. "I unveil myself much more in my music than anything else in life. Music has always been a release for me. I didn't have a lot of friends when I was younger because I was very shy. Music was my alter ego," confesses Jenny.

Jenny's long anticipated sophomore CD, If I Fall, was released in November 2000. Produced by Les Siemieniuk, it features 14 new original songs. Backed up by Mel Smith on guitar, Ross Watson on drums, Sean Howland on bass, Ron Casat on piano and Karen Youngquist on cello, the recording has a warm, live feel that promises to be an enjoyable experience for her present and future fans. Watch and listen for the new album. Jenny's powerful presence live and on her recordings enure that Jenny is a musical force to be reckoned with.
