Bio

Jenny Dalton’s debut CD, Fleur de Lily, is filled with ethereal vocals, moody piano, and epic rock ballads. The project features guest appearances by talented Minneapolis musicians, including members of Cloud Cult, on drums, bass, guitar, and strings. This will be the first release on her independent record label, Glossy Shoebox Productions.

THE WAR
Many songs on Fleur de Lily were inspired by her relationship with a soldier through his year-long deployment to Iraq in 2005. The song “At Ease” was written after his two-week visit home in the summer of ’05, and “Iraqi Sky” was based on a dream he had during the separation. The vintage look of the photography was also meant to depict the war-time era.

THE LILY
Because of its metaphor for growth and its personal meaning in her family history, a fleur de lis symbol was used throughout the artwork supporting this project.

A flower symbolizes growth and perseverance through challenging times. The song “Three Lilies” takes the mythological meanings of the lily flower while “Lily and the Stranger” documents a fictional prequel about a character in Bob Dylan’s song, “Rosemary, Lily, and the Jack of Hearts.”

Five lilies represent Franco origin on the Dalton family Irish coat of arms. Using the fleur de lis is, in part, an acknowledgement of Jenny’s family members who have passed on.

THE HISTORY & INFLUENCE
Jenny Dalton has been writing original piano songs since she was about eight years old. She has never had any formal training and cannot read music. Most people compare her sound to Tori Amos and The Cranberries, and she is influenced by lyricists and sound-sculptors including Kate Bush, Kristin Hersh.
