"Maybe you'll see me on 'Glee'"

DOWNINGTOWN — Jenny Founds is working on a career as a vocalist and hopes winning a talent contest on a popular new teen television show will help.

The 17-year-old student at the School of Rock in Downingtown is a participant in a contest sponsored by the Fox Network TV show "Glee." The show's executive producers are accepting videos on the show's My Space social networking page, where visitors will pick their favorite teen performer.

As of midnight Friday, Jenny was leading. The contest ends midnight Monday.

Entering was a lark. "I had hoped to get some recognition," she said.

Winning? "I want to tell people thank you for supporting me. And the other thing," she said, laughing, "is get the vote in by Monday night."

The web address to vote for Jenny is http://www.myspace.com/gleeauditions?link=417936673.

At the same time, she is surprised and thankful for the attention.

"I've gotten a lot of support from a lot of people who wanted this to happen," she said.

Jenny has been singing since she was 5 with her mother, Susan. She said she would go along with her mother on her public engagements.

"My mom is very supportive, along with my dad," she said. "My mom looks back on it and never got the breaks. She wants to make sure I get all the breaks and opportunities she never had."

Jenny started out by singing Broadway and jazz and drifted toward rock and folk as she grew older.

At the School of Rock she has developed an attraction for classic rock and now considers Pink Floyd a favorite band.

The contest offered 10 tunes for entrants to choose and perform. Jenney selected "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by The Rolling Stones for her video in part because it gave her a chance to sing and play guitar.

She had no idea what comes next with the contest. All contestants are told is to keep time off in July.

The television show is about high school students in a glee club with teen stories and tunes mixed in.

Jenny has been studying acting at a performing arts high school while polishing her musical chops on guitar, bass and piano at the School of Rock.

Projects at the school exposed her to a lot of music from the 1960s and 1970s. She came across Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" as a backup singer on a program on the recording.

An employee at the school turned her on to singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell. "She said I would appreciate her," Jenny said. The employee was right. Mitchell is a story teller, and Jenny liked that Mitchell was a good guitar player who pushed her music into jazz in the 1970s and 1980s.

For her final project at the rock school, she and her classmates are performing in a folk music program. She's been working on a folk act with her boyfriend, Mike Haldeman, but would like to get started in a band soon.

She is especially grateful to one of her teachers, Tom McKee, a professional musician and writer, for not only helping her with her art but also for helping to explain the business end of things "and not to be taken advantage of." - The Daily Local News

"Gibby Haynes and the Paul Green School of Rock"

In February of 2008, he joined the Paul Green School Of Rock All Stars (aged 11-17) for six concerts, playing Butthole Surfers music. (See below for links to YouTubes from some of the shows). Gibby must have enjoyed playing with the All Stars, because in June and July of 2008, he once again joined them for a 14 date tour, with shows in the US and Europe. This time, Gibby brought along the classic 1980's lineup of the Butthole Surfers, reuniting for the first time since 2002! Toward the end of the final concert at Webster Hall in New York, Gibby was escorted offstage by security following an altercation with the club's soundman, leaving the All Stars and the remaining Surfers to finish the show. Ah, just like the good old days! They also performed in Austin for the first time in this lineup since 1989, at Stubb's on September 27, 2008. A full North American tour took place in the fall of 2009, with the tour opener (Sept. 24 in Houston) and closer (Oct. 31 in Austin) both taking place in Texas.
An established artist as well as musician (Gibby created the artwork for the P album), his works were featured in the Business Unusual II: Room At the Top show in NYC in 2005, at the Power Pathos show at the Station Museum of Contemporary Art in Houston TX in 2006, the Draw Tour at the Gallery Lombardi in Austin TX in 2007, and the Rock Paper Scissor Exhibition at the Robert Berman Gallery in 2009. Gibby has also collaborated with the improv comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade.

Norwegian devils in denim Turbonegro once crooned "You wanna rock, You gotta roll, Fishing for gold in a toilet bowl". And never a truer word was spoken! In the sewer that is the world of modern music, it's hard to find a real gem by sifting through the muck to find those genuine rock rebels who will become the idols of their generation. For eleven years, musician Paul Green has worked harder than anybody in sifting and panning for musical gold through his School of Rock located in Philadelphia, USA. Through rigorous training, blood, sweat and tears, he's made damned sure that kids who live for rock learn how to roll! And thats exactly what we're going to see them do at MADE. - School of Rock

Bio

As a 19 year old musician and singer/songwriter, Jenny Founds has already established herself as a force to be reckoned with. Touring with the Paul Green School of Rock All-Stars for five years, playing over fifteen national and international tours with guest stars such as Jon Anderson from Yes, Denny Walley and Napoleon Murphy Brock from Zappa and the Mothers, and Slash from Guns and Roses, she has gained her musical knowledge through experience. Her musical inspirations range from Joni Mitchell to Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Sufjan Stevens, and Yes. With Mike Haldeman as her core collaborator, guitarist, and engineer, they just finished recording their debut, ten song full-length album, which was released January 13th, 2012.
