Jenny Leigh Antill

I started writing songs when I was a freshman in college. I was inspired by the people I was meeting and wanted to tell their stories. So, I picked up a guitar and started to write. Once I wrote one song, I found that writing more came easily to me. I began to feel the urge for writing music and singing more and more often, and would go into the dorm stairwell to play so I could have privacy and... great acoustics! The more songs I wrote, the more people were telling me I had to share them. I began to play in coffee houses and restaurants. Shakily, I began to share my music with the world. I began getting paid to play music about a year later and started to establish myself as a singer/songwriter that people recognized in my small college town. I began to notice that my lyrics seemed to be different than other people's. Even though I was writing about similar topics, the depth in which I was writing was extrememly vulnerable and spiritual. This has a lot to do with who I draw most of my inspiration from in my songwriting: Joni Mitchell. I have never been as touched by the truth than when I listen to her lyrcis. I always strive to tell the truth with my music and to write poetry, not just catchy tunes. Since college, I have been playing everywhere I have lived: Phoenix, AZ, Flagstaff, AZ, Maui, Hawaii, and now Santa Fe, NM. Music allows me to enter the present moment, to step into a confidence that reaches out to others. Music will always be my primal language that I use to communicate with the world.
