Jenny Moe

Jenny Moe

 Oslo, Oslo County, NOR
SoloPopSinger/Songwriter

Her music spans out like a fragile yet majestic bridge, connecting aspects of everyday life anno 2014 in an original and detailed sound between Chopin, Jessie Ware and Laura Nyro.

Biography

"Jenny Moe has a rare talent for words and melodies" - Bernt Jakob Oksnes, Dagbladet

"A gifted musician, already a master at creating the right ambience around her songs" - Hamar Arbeiderblad

With her debut album Mon Capitaine released 12.september 2014, Jenny Moe is a fearless and mesmerizing performer ready for touring. With a raw musical talent on the piano and a raspy voice like a soft invitation, yet brimful of power, her sound swiftly leaps from the frailest to pure force, delivered to the audience with a dynamic and talented band, aiming at moving and inspiring the crowd. Her lyrics hold poetic force, and convey stories of freedom, acceptance, restlessness, despair and ambition.

Taking classical piano lessons from age 7 and writing songs since age 16,  it took a year in Paris to inspire this shy artist, pianist and songwriter from the countryside in Norway, to go further with the construction of her musical landscape. During her stay in the life changing City of Lights, as an erasmus student 4th year of medical school, the young norvÄ‚Ĺ gienne performed on stage alone for the first time, in the Latin Quarters, and wrote the song that was to be the title track Mon Capitaine, capturing her motivation for the launching of her music career and the spirit to work hard for what you deep down already know you want. This attitude also brought about her innovative and first in history Norwegian crowdfunded music video for the same track, produced by the media giant Attitude Enterprises in Dubai 2013, with horses and the perfect visualisation of the point from the song: with belief in your dream paired up with hard work, nothing is impossible.

After her return to Oslo, Jenny startet building her soundscape and name as an artist and songwriter. In 2011 she won the Talent Award, february 2012 she was solo support act for Norway's biggest live band, Kaizers Orchestra, and in 2013 signed to Arch Records/ACT Entertainment. Now, her debut album is ready for the world, with impressive reviews. Mon Capitaine, her debut album, has a solid acoustic foundation, partially wrapped up in a synthetic layer of JUNO-synths and processed guitars. The sound of the album places Jenny Moe between artist such as Jessie Ware, Adele and Rufus Wainwright, with a touch of Nordic fierceness and melancholia.

"Already, Jenny Moe comes across as an artist with a convincing originality, creating a world which both surprises and moves" - 5/6, Review "Mon Capitane" Hamar Arbeiderblad 11.9.2014

Country of Music/Country of Love

Written By: Jenny Moe

an we bury ourselves in warm soil?
Till we disappear, till we disappear.
Can we let ourselves go in warm soil?
So close I can hear your breath in my ear

Can we hide from what hunts in high air?
The tales of our loss, their definition of us
Everything's so thin in high air
Dreams are forgot, nightmares are not

In my country of Music, my country of Love
I hid from their eyes, from the stories they told

Can we find what we lost in warm soil?
That one fresh dawn, with curiosity strong
They say everything can grow in warm soil
We'll sink in with our dreams, let them grow to be seen

In my country of Music, in my country of Love
They left shadows and barbed wire coiled round my roads
In my country of Music, in my country of Love
He had buried down land mines, so I could not go.

In my country of Music, in my country of Love
I wandered the stranger, the homeless, the fraud
In my country of Music, in my country of Love
It took years, it took you
to call it my own

It took me all this time
I can't believe it took me all this time

You, Me & War

Written By: Jenny Moe

I turned off the radio, turned on the shower
Let the silence be my music tonight
I stood in the water, allowing the memory
of your arms to be my music tonight

Cross my heart, I neved saw that day coming
When you'd stay and I'd leave
I hope you take care of all those around you
I hope you take care of who you want to be

I hope
You go where you want to go
Feel what you feel
I'll still be here, being the one who believes
I'll go where the world calls me
See what it holds
I'll come to you
When it calls out to war

This is not over, just my head off of your shoulder
The power of cowardice
threatening our dreams
You as my mirror,
I could fight my own horrors
My soul of gunpowder
Your heart of steel

Like a gunshot exploding
In my body
I miss you in my future
In the fibers of my dreams
In my head, my sleep
The pain of loosing you
Is building monsters running faster than me

Go where you want to go
Feel what you feel
I'll still be here, being the one who believes
I'll go where the world calls me
See what it holds
I'll come to you
When it calls out to war

Cause I feel that I can be more
When I'm with you
I'm with you

So go on
Feel
I am still here
I still believe
That if you go where the world calls you
See what it holds
I'm there with you

Oh if you,
Go where you want to go
Feel
There is something still left
In this world that is real
I'll go where the world calls me
See what it holds
I'll walk with you
When it calls out to war
When it calls out to war
When it calls out to war

Anyhow

Written By: Jenny Moe

This world is
no stage I know
Light falls on
dusty storage rooms of ghosts

It's getting to hard

Have you seen
what makes men fall?
Have you seen the marshlands?
How it drains them all,

I damn this world
for being so small
I damn the distance
for being so great
between
our hands
I get lost in these lands

It' s getting too hard anyhow
It's getting too close anyhow
I cannot hear you anyhow
So it goes

Make beat
this angry heart of rust
Make it beat
a rhythm I can trust

Make it move my dreams
out in the air
Make it blow to pieces
all of these doubts and fears
around me
Cause they hold me here

(where)
It's getting to hard anyhow
It's getting too close anyhow
I cannot hear you anyhow

and you know

It' s getting too hard anyhow
It's getting too close anyhow
I cannot hear you anyhow

So it goes

Let the rain dance down
on my skin
make me turn it round
from this hopelessness to
something I can believe

When it' s getting too hard
It's getting too close
When I can't hear

There, there

It' s getting too hard anyhow
It's getting too close anyhow
I cannot hear you anyhow

It' s getting too hard anyhow
It's getting too close anyhow
I can't hear you anyhow
That's all

Mon Capitaine

Written By: Jenny Moe

Pack up your bags, Mon Capitaine
We're going travelling
There's no knowing where
Still toi, toi même tu le sais
There is no time, Mon Capitaine
For more waiting
We're no longer the young ones,
This is the long run
What will come will come our way

You'll see the skyline in the east
Pass the forest, pass the sea
See the road before you
Like you always saw it in your mind

Sp pick up your bags, Mon Capitaine
There's a future in moving
A future in choosing what to take
There is a force, Mon Capitaine
It will take you further
Towards knowing
Towards living
Towards loving this road as your home

You'll see the skyline in the east
Pass the forest, pass the sea
See the road before you
Like you always saw it in your mind
There the sun will bear your name
You will sweat, you will work in pain
You will know no shame, no loneliness
Just running horses

You'll see the skyline
You'll pass the sea
You'll see the road
You have always seen it in your mind

You'll see the skyline in the east
Pass the forest, pass the sea
See the road before you
Like you always saw it in your mind
There the sun will bear your name
You will sweat, you will work in pain
You will know no shame, no loneliness
Just running horses

Away This Time

Written By: Jenny Moe

You got away this time
With your mask in position
A self-chosen mission sent you off
Away this time
With no help, no compagnon
You fled to the canyon
where the winds are though

There you would howl to the wind
Got away this time
There you would boast to yourself
Got away

You tried to leave one time
But the horse would not canter
The talk, the banter
scared you home
You tried to leave one time
But the wave-broken ocean
The third law of motion
scared you home

You would dream in you sleep
To get away one time
You would swear in your wake
You'd get away one time
And you'll get away one time

Your feet on fire
Your head at war
You just can't tell
What it's all for
You say your hands
Can only let go
But Honey
They can do so much more

You'll get away this time
You cut the chain off the handle
Blow hard at the candle
And step out
You'll get away this time
There's no hymn nor lovesong,
No sense of right or wrong
To keep you about

Ice water down in your spine
You got away this time
Living, moving body and mind
You got away this time
Oceans and mountains will scream
For you to stay one time
Now they are breaking your path
To get away
To get away

You'll get away this time
Cut the chain off the handle
Make fire with that candle
And go

Arm's Length Distance

Written By: Jenny Moe

On a careful arm's length distance you hold my hand
On a careful arm's length distance you stand
On a careful arm's length distance I burn in vain
All my unspoken words are the only thing that will remain

When this heart has burned out for you
When this heart has burned out for you

On a careful arm's length distance you set the pace
On a careful arm's length distance you rest your case
On a careful arm's length distance it's getting cold
All my unspoken words I'm looking so forward to show

When this heart has burned out for you
When this heart has burned out for you
When this pain has burned it's way through
When this heart has burned out for you

On a careful arm's length distance you say my name
But on a careful arm's length distance I no longer remain
On a careful arm's length distance I burned in vain
Words evaporating, now you watch them come down as rain

When this heart has burned out for you
When this heart has burned out for you
When this pain has burned it's way all through
When this heart has burned out for you

Went Away

Written By: Jenny Moe

This feeling of abandonment
You are nowhere to be seen
The feeling that this breath is my last
The fear of what comes in-between

Now that it's in you
Just like they said it would be
Now it's run free
Inside me

You went away
I was lost in you
Now I can't be found
It hurts like
A word I won't use

Your eyes beam to hold back the tears
For letting someone close
Your laughter seeps out like blood
'Cause something inside you broke

You went away
I was lost in you
Now I can't be found
It hurts like
You went away
I was lost in you
Now I can't be found
It hurts like
A word I won't use
A word

Now that it's in you
Just like they said it would be
Now it's run free inside me

You went away
I was lost in you
And now I can't be found
It hurts like
A word I won't use
A word I won't use
A word

Don't Follow Me Home

Written By: Jenny Moe

You guard your feelings well
Keep them safe there on that bottle shelf
Still you went beyond your past
For something never meant to last

Don’t follow me home, don’t follow me home
Don’t follow me home, don’t follow me home

You said you knew the truth
I did not understand
That you knew what you believed
Never thought to ask me

And I can’t blame you for it
But oh how I blame you for it

So, don’t follow me home, don’t follow me home
Don’t follow me home, don’t follow me home
This is no love song, this is just love gone wrong
So don’t follow me home, don’t follow me home

'Cause it's over
Over now
Yeah it's over
Over now

This is no love song this is just love gone wrong
Don't follow me home, don't follow me home

Don't follow me, don't follow me, don't follow me home
Don't follow me home, don't follow me home
This is no love song this is just love gone wrong
Don't follow me home, don't follow me home...

With Sunrays On Everything I Love

Written By: Jenny Moe

I think I might have found you
I think you might have found me
You found your way into me
Without ever going wrong
Without tripping on old branches
Being stopped by any fences
Without arguing with senses
'Bout how this thing should roll

I think you might have saved me
Without you really knowing
But you know, despite of all religion
A saviour never knows
The power seeping out through
Hands and mind and body
A saviour, still my baby
Who at night I hold

Hold
Hold
Hold

If ashes come from dancing
Too long with the fire
Our lives would be a pyre
From which a cinder storm
Would sweep over the mountains
Dance around like stardust
Dive deep into oceans
Who'd swallow us for luck

Luck
Luck
Luck

If one day I'd lose you
If one day you'd lose me
All hell would march straight through me
All heaven would come down
To whisper oh so softly
Of all these early mornings
Where you without a warning
Would hold me oh so close

Close
