"A Gifted Musician"

She is already a master at creating the right ambience around her songs, and moved the audience at an intimate concert at Tante Gerda last night.

Tante Gerda is becoming a very popular music scene in Hamar. Many musicians want to play there, and not only the locals. Even Guren Hagen has previously done a concert there. JENNY MOE is one of those who want to come back. After her debut concert a year and a half ago, it was due time to try out her new song material for an audience. Tante Gerda was on the top of her list. "I have done a support gig for Kaizers Orchestra on Sentrum Scene. That was huge. But I also like an intimate setting such as this place, so this will be as exciting. The audience coming here tonight will be a part of the process when it comes to the making of my debut album.", Jenny explains before the concert. The songs are close to finished, and yesterday she played her stripped solo version of the songs that will appear on her album. TRAVELLING MUSICIAN - It was an exceptionally intimate meeting with a gifted musician. Because Jenny Moe is at home where there is love and music. With simple words she creates an ambience before each song, often with a few tones in the background. She does this in a highly prudent manner and even though her songs are personal, she puts them into a context where everybody can find a place. Mostly, it evolves around being on a travel. With a unique combination of fragility and willpower she brings the listener into her melancholic universe of music. The sequence of the songs is a travel on its own; from feeling the pain of leaving because you've been at a stand-still for too long, to finding the solution in not taking the pain home. But even a song such as this is performed with a underlying despair. That everything is a choice and we do as we want, is the subject of the next song. MOVES HER AUDIENCE - On the guitar, she is as rhythmical as on the piano, showing us that the music comes from the inside. With the same melancholic undertone, she alternates freely between rhythms and melodies. It surprises frequently, still it takes time before the sun shines through, which it finally does in the last song. With a accordion from Romania, and Magnus Hængsle at the piano, she ends the concert with her hair let down and flowing, and lets go of her own reins. Again she is musically very free and utilizes the instruments in her own, unique way. When the last tone has been played and the ambience still lingers in the air, an audience remains, very moved and infatuated by this musician. - Hamar Arbeiderblad 7.5.2012

"Jenny Moe Debuts With CD And Concert"

Every year many hopeful artists release CDs or start their careers in other ways. Some of them have been discovered by a record company and have big resources behind them. Others have done the whole job themselves. Jenny Moe is one of those artists, and Friday night she played her debut concert for her first CD, Mon Capitaine in Oslo.

The venue for the concert was Parkteatret, an intimate former movie theater, well suited for concerts. I have seen many concerts there, among them Gojira, and both hard and soft music sounds good there. Parkteatret was a good venue for Jenny Moe’s debut, and the audience were many and enthusiastic.

Jenny Moe has worked hard and for a long time with her debut. I have been lucky to follow the process, listening to the songs from sketches until the finished product. I have also followed the process of making a cover, taking the cover photos, setting up an exquisite website, and working social media and the rest that is necessary for a successful launching.

The starting point for all artists are the songs. Without good songs, no sustainable career. Jenny Moe has some very good songs, and she has done a good job in getting them recorded in a way that get the best out of them. The production was done by herself with Magnus Haengsle and Per Martin Nordlie and it is dynamic, organic and works great for the songs. You can listen to the CD on Spotify or WiMP, and you can buy it on iTunes.

The debut concert was well directed, with tasteful decorations on the stage, and a band that sounded fresh and inspired. At the end of the concert, the choir Koret (meaning “The Choir”) came on stage, making a perfect end to a great night. I was impressed by the whole concert, the musicians and Jenny Moe’s performance.

Jenny Moe’s CD has recieved good reviews so far, and that is well deserved. LIve she is also good, with a voice that is both strong and can show emotions. Her songwriting skills shows in her songs, where the best of them are really good. It has been interesting and rewarding to follow this process, and Jenny Moe deserves all the success she can get. She is an artist with some great and catchy songs that she performs very well. What more can you ask for? - Per Ole Hagen/Artist Pictures Blog

"Jenny Moe - Mon Capitaine - 5/6!"

Jenny Moe's debut album became well known when she released the first crowdfunded music video in the history of Norway, for the title track "Mon Capitaine", shot in the desert around Dubai. Now her album is ready for release and Jenny Moe comes across as an pop artist with a unique character. A consistent airy feel creates a fragile and brittle ambiance by using hushed means, but also with a magnitude of great details. A pondering basic ambiance characterizes many of the songs, and also lyric-wise Jenny has a lot to offer. What can be objected, is that not all of the songs in the second half of the album have the same light insistent intensity as the best songs. But together, they still make a great entirety. And when everything is right, Jenny Moe already appears as an artist with convincing originality who creates a world which both surprises and moves. An impressive debut album. - Geir Vestad, Hamar Arbeiderblad

Bio

"Jenny Moe has a rare talent for words and melodies" - Bernt Jakob Oksnes, Dagbladet

"A gifted musician, already a master at creating the right ambience around her songs" - Hamar Arbeiderblad

With her debut album Mon Capitaine released 12.september 2014, Jenny Moe is a fearless and mesmerizing performer ready for touring. With a raw musical talent on the piano and a raspy voice like a soft invitation, yet brimful of power, her sound swiftly leaps from the frailest to pure force, delivered to the audience with a dynamic and talented band, aiming at moving and inspiring the crowd. Her lyrics hold poetic force, and convey stories of freedom, acceptance, restlessness, despair and ambition.

Taking classical piano lessons from age 7 and writing songs since age 16,  it took a year in Paris to inspire this shy artist, pianist and songwriter from the countryside in Norway, to go further with the construction of her musical landscape. During her stay in the life changing City of Lights, as an erasmus student 4th year of medical school, the young norvÄ‚Ĺ gienne performed on stage alone for the first time, in the Latin Quarters, and wrote the song that was to be the title track Mon Capitaine, capturing her motivation for the launching of her music career and the spirit to work hard for what you deep down already know you want. This attitude also brought about her innovative and first in history Norwegian crowdfunded music video for the same track, produced by the media giant Attitude Enterprises in Dubai 2013, with horses and the perfect visualisation of the point from the song: with belief in your dream paired up with hard work, nothing is impossible.

After her return to Oslo, Jenny startet building her soundscape and name as an artist and songwriter. In 2011 she won the Talent Award, february 2012 she was solo support act for Norway's biggest live band, Kaizers Orchestra, and in 2013 signed to Arch Records/ACT Entertainment. Now, her debut album is ready for the world, with impressive reviews. Mon Capitaine, her debut album, has a solid acoustic foundation, partially wrapped up in a synthetic layer of JUNO-synths and processed guitars. The sound of the album places Jenny Moe between artist such as Jessie Ware, Adele and Rufus Wainwright, with a touch of Nordic fierceness and melancholia.
