Lyrics

The Path

Written By: Jenny Wilson

I wanted to be born
So I crawled out in the middle of the night
Out of my mother
I looked at the stars and I looked at the bushes
Then I crawled along the path
In a pair of dusty shoes
I walked along my youth
I was left with a number of needs to please
The more I walked, the more they increased!
“We have to eat, bring us food for peace!”
And quicker than you turn a silver coin
The magic, the childhood, the night was all
Gone!
Oh, will I always walk alone?
Oh, man, so they say
Oh, will I always walk alone?
Oh, man, I think so…
Later on,
I got me a horse and a rifl e
This power should save my life, oh
BANG! I fi red a shot into the sky
For Gods’ sake, someone could have died!
And the horse, oh, kicked backwards
And his hoof, oh, hit my head
Then I was all knocked out for a…
decade.
Oh, will I always walk alone…
So I’ve heard
But I don’t believe it…
10 years later I opened my eyes
I stared at the bushes; I searched in the sky
How many losses? How many earnings?
Do I know love, or only yearning?
Well, now I lay here next to a fi re
With a baby on my chest to admire…
Don’t crawl away from me yet, little boy!
I know a path, but it can wait little boy!

Like a fading rainbow

Written By: Jenny Wilson

No, no more sugar left
No more soap to clean my hands with
No songs left for the choir
Oh, no more stitches for the dress
No more bread here left to bless
I raise my hands to reach the sky
So I left my fading life
I left my house with an open door
Left it like an open sore
I couldn’t stop the wind, oh, blow!
I couldn’t stop the blood, oh, fl ow!
No, no more fi re wood
No sweep to brush away the mud
That’s stuck upon my
Shoes
Oh, no birds that are fl ocking ‘round my feet
No pockets full of grain and crumbs of wheat
No cake that’s soft and sweet
No, no more shimmering stars
No more strings upon on my guitar
So I left my fading life…

Clattering Hooves

Written By: Jenny Wilson

Eyes black as the darkest lake
And wiser than you ever can say
I speak to an old working horse
Every doubt I’ve felt is gone
Now, I ain’t gonna let you plow in this mud
Freedom is running in your blood,
I ain’t gonna let you, cause we’re just the same kind
Freedom is running through our mind
Oh, what are we waiting for?
Up and gone with clattering hooves
Clickety-clack, they’re making me move
Go, go, gone with clattering hooves!
Clap your hands and rattle the keys!
Snap your fi ngers and move your feet!
Go, go, gone with clattering hooves!
Oh, what a feeling!
Come on, let’s run forever!
Oh, we can make it, or am I wrong?
Oh, what a feeling!
The wind against our faces!
We took the wrong road
Now we’re going…
Where are we going… home?!
Oh, man
Look at me now
You see my unwashed face
Look, I’ve got dirt under my nails
Can I wash them another day?
I ain’t gonna go on plowing in this old mud
Freedom is running in my blood!
I ain’t gonna go on, though I know that I should
Freedom, I’ve heard it’s something good!
Are you coming with me?
Up and gone with clattering hooves…
Oh, what a feeling!
Come on, let’s run forever!
Oh, we can make it, or am I wrong?
Oh, what a feeling!
The wind against our faces
We won this battle
How’s it going?
I think we’re doing quite…
OK.
Ain’t gonna go there!
Clap your hands!
Clattering hooves!
Home…
Oh, what a feeling!
Come on, let’s run forever!
Oh, we can make it, or am I wrong?
Oh, what a feeling!
The wind against our faces
We took the wrong road
I wanna do it…
I wanna do it
Again !

The Wooden chair

Written By: Jenny WIlson

I sit here singing a song,
a song that’ll make you sleepy
Oh, I sing a harsh hymn all through the night
so I won’t fall asleep
Oh oh, lil’ baby in my arms
I am armed
I’m standing in the line of fire
My heart is beating it goes boom-boom-boom
Both of my feet wanna march right out of the room
It’s like a fever, and I don’t feel fine
I wanna leave you baby, but our veins are entwined
Oh no, I’m sitting on a chair
Sing oh, man I’m sitting on a chair
Oh no, I’m sitting on a chair
I wanna leave you baby, but our veins are
entwined!
Oh no, I’m sitting on a chair
Sing oh man, I’m sitting on a chair
Oh no, I’m sitting on a chair
Sitting on a wooden chair!
Said,
Oh, I’ve seen so many birds come and go in a flow
Bring me along!
Oh, let the soup get burned in its pot,
the holes grow bigger in the socks
My heart is beating it goes boom-boom-boom
Both of my feet wanna march right out of the room
It’s like a steaming fever, and I don’t feel fine
I wanna leave you baby, but our veins are entwined
Oh, no I’m sitting on a chair…
Wait, don’t go!
Where holes begin to grow
Never say no
Stay!
Wait, don’t go!
Ain’t gonna go
Where holes begin to grow
Ain’t gonna go there,
Ain’t gonna do it
I ain’t gonna leave my baby
Because our veins are entwined

Only here for the fight

Written By: Jenny Wilson

Are you asleep? Stop that dreaming…
I’m ready!
The hole’s been fixed in my shirt
Combed my hair with my fingertips
And washed away the dirt
Will I make it?
I know I must go on
Am I right or wrong?
I won’t give up!
I am armed; I am tough I am strong
And prepared for the rough days
I sing the fighter’s song
Cause I will make it!
I know I must go on
I’m only here,
Only here for the fight!
– Listen to the choir!
Only here for the fight!
– Hunker down, there’s a fire shot!
Only here for the fight!
– Lick the plates clean!
Only here for the fight!
– Oh, I don’t want to lose…
Don’t screw it up this time, woman!
Wear a coat made of doubt
But I roll up my sleeves,
And my pockets full of questions
I’m spitting blood on the street
Remember,
What my mama said:
Woman, always be prepared…
For the fight…
I’m all knocked out now…
I’ve fallen asleep
Don’t wanna wake up now
From this wonderful dream:
I stalk through the grass
I’m proud like a queen
My eyes are sharp as neon lights!
My voice is clear 'n' clean
Oh, glorious! Oh, glorious the choir sings for me
And for the rest of the herd
The words, the words, the words you must have heard:
Only here for the fight!
