Self Explanatory. This is the phrase Jeremy Thornton uses to open the song
“Victim of my Love” on his critically acclaimed album Rize UP. His music
breeds an instant familiarity with the often understated and unexplained genre
that comes from a black man who’s well versed in rock music. Jeremy’s
one of several artists caught up in the musical wake of Prince – from popular
Van Hunt to the obscure Cody Chestnutt – trying to define their own style
within the realm of music that is self aware and at times politically and socially
incorrect. Jeremy’s music has very strong tinges of Soul, R&B and Hip-Hop
as much as Rock. However you define his sound, Jeremy is all about good
music. The first track on Rize UP, “Victim of my Love”, reeks of funk and is
followed by a tune about a mother with HIV. It is delivered in a style that is
very heartening, edgy and real. “Addiction,” is a bluesy, synthesized-organheavy
track that at times feels like your pop’s Saturday afternoon Blues.
Jeremy carries out a melodic lament about an addiction to his woman and
indulges listeners with a hell bent keyboard solo. As the lead single on the
album, it speaks to that strong familiarity inherent within all of Jeremy’s music.
Jeremy is talented and his music is good, but the genre is as much reliant
on musicianship and songwriting as it is on swagger and attitude. It is this
energy that has propelled Jeremy to popularity internationally in London
and Amsterdam. It’s this unquantifiable attitude that is evident in the live
performance tunes on the record, which also showcases Jeremy’s ability
to wow a crowd. It’s about the long dreds swinging to the music and a
contagious energy aroused by genuine self-amusement and reflection
that occurs with each performance. His follow-up album, Higher Than Gas
Prices, is set to drop in December and promises to be as equally honest
and supple, while pushing even more social and political buttons.
With undeniable charisma and musical flexibility, Jeremy Thornton is
poised to make the next major splash as a Black soul/rocker. As he
would put it, its self explantory.

Soul….Hip Hop….Rock. When you hear the music of Jeremy Thornton; that is what you will experience. Once you listen to his music you will attempt to figure out who Jeremy Thornton sounds like, but you won’t be able to because he has his own particular sound.
Jeremy Thornton was born and raised in Chicago in which he began his music career as a Hip Hop artist at a very young age. Being a free spirit led Jeremy to translate his love of writing into poetry and poetry into music. He performed in many venues around the Illinois area that gave him the opportunity to develop his own unique style of writing as well as experiment with various soundscapes.
His passion led Jeremy to move to Atlanta, Georgia where he began working on an underground album self titled “Stil True”, which is now a classic. Undeniably talented; Jeremy soon caught the attention of a lot of up and coming producers like Billy Hume and Chris Vermillion. He was soon asked to collaborate on the underground classic album titled “Full Contact Sports”; which turned out to be a stepping stone for artist such as Bonecrusher (Arista), Lil Jon (TVT), and The Lyrical Giants (Tommy Boy). Not stopping his stride, Jeremy worked on the project “Dare to Travel Upon the Track Less Followed: An Exploration in Hip-Hop”; a compilation featuring some of the South’s hottest artist.
Multi-talented by nature; Jeremy has now taken his music to yet another level by delving into soul, pop and rock. Knowing that the piano is the foundation of all instruments; Jeremy taught himself to play so that he could express his love for music through any form and instrument. Being a professional musician; Jeremy’s live show is top notch and only includes quality musicians. His new “When Ugly People Made Good Music” cd is getting ready to carry you on an adventure of different styles that takes you from one spectrum of the music realm to the other.
