Bio

Jeremy Wendelin has been a freelance musician in the Denver area since 2000, when he received his M.Ed from the University of Puget Sound. While at Puget Sound, he won that school's Concerto/Aria Competition, performed Ibert's Concertino da Camera and Creston's Concerto for Alto Saxophone, founded a jazz combo, and played with guest artists from Ray Brown to Poncho Sanchez to Art Farmer. Since returning to the Denver area, Jeremy has performed in a variety of settings and styles, including rock, funk, reggae, salsa, and musical theater. However, the core of his work has always been jazz and classical music.

Since 2001, Jeremy has led his jazz groups at clubs, festivals, concerts, and events. In addition, he frequently plays with other small groups and big bands. He has performed at many prominent Denver-area jazz clubs and throughout Colorado at festivals and concerts. In 2008, he was featured on David Ackerman's The Jazz Player with the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra. In his own groups, Jeremy strikes a balance between solo contributions and outstanding arrangements to create a group sound that is greater than the sum of its parts.

As a classical player, Jeremy has been active with area ensembles and as a soloist. He has performed with several Denver-area orchestras and with the Colorado Wind Ensemble. He has also appeared with chamber groups and as a soloist, playing the classical repertoire for saxophone from Bach & Handel to the 21st century.

Throughout his career, Jeremy has arranged and composed for his groups. He has written for big bands and small ensembles, and his jazz compositions have been included in the Colorado Wind Ensemble's chamber concert series. His original compositions and arrangements also provide new material for his quartet and other groups.

The Jeremy Wendelin Quartet is an extraordinary musical group, created to play the kind of jazz that audiences love to hear — jazz that is melodic and adventurous at the same time. From the classic jazz of Brubeck and Coltrane to reinterpretations of fusion and funk; from timeless tunes to originals; from free improvisation to elaborate arrangements, the music is entertaining and exciting. It challenges artists and inspires listeners.

The quartet is composed of four outstanding improvisers who create playful, intricate, even passionate solos. But the Jeremy Wendelin Quartet is more than just a collection of soloists. This group plays songs and arrangements that frame the individual contributions, tell a larger story, and draw the audience into its musical world.
