Bio

Bro. Jerome Johnson Jr. is a man with a passion and drive for God’s youth and the lost souls of the world. Hailing from the Queen City, otherwise known as Cincinnati, Ohio, Minister Johnson has always been rooted and grounded in the Word of the Lord. Born to Sis. Julia Johnson and Bro. Jerome Johnson Sr., Jerome grew up in the church where, singing in the youth choir at The First Baptist Church of West College Hill, his love for music was birthed.

While a student at Woodward High School, Mr. Johnson was a member of an R&B group which came to be known as Perfect Combination. Upon graduation and his acceptance to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Jerome acquired the gift to minister to the masses through his fingertips on the keys of a piano. Upon being blessed with this gift to play the piano, Bro. Johnson began to play for a local church in Oxford, Bethel AME Church, and he also began to direct the Miami University Gospel Singers, also known as MUGS.

After Jerome completed his college work, earning a degree in Math, he moved back to his hometown and became the musician at New Jerusalem Baptist Church and became the director of Xavier University Gospel Choir. At the age of twenty-five, Minister Johnson made the decision to begin to diligently seek God for his purpose in Him. Jerome received an astounding word from the Lord, “in the midst of my nonsense,” as he oftentimes states. Through this word, Bro. Jerome came to realize that God is so much bigger than the box that “religion” tries to put Him in, and that too often people “play church” instead of actually being the church that God has called us to become.

Upon gaining this revelation from the Lord, Jerome set out to find the lost and to allow them to see that God can use anyone—even if you started out waddling within your own mess, God can take your flaws and turn them into Perfect Success. He decided to reach out to those who are lost and searching for something but are afraid to come to the church because of the facade that the church presents to the world. Minister Johnson strives to let people know that you can meet God and know God for yourself, no matter what denomination you are a part of or what church you belong to.

Jerome is currently the Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church of West College Hill, under the direction of Pastor Charles L. King Jr. He has also continued to direct the XU Gospel Choir along with a variety of other choirs including New Vision, and Youth Grounded In Excellence.

“Uncover Me,” Jerome’s debut solo album, is an album in which Minister Johnson told the Lord to allow him to uncover and expose all of his mess to the world so that they may see that if God is able to use him in spite of his imperfections and disobedience to God’s Word, then God can use them too. This album is made up of thirteen inspirational songs, including “Brother,” and “S.E.EX.Y,” and is now available to the public.
