"Death of a Preacher"

This film by Jerry Grimes is an honest, no holds barred look at his life journey. It follows the life of Grimes, who finds himself at a crossroads faced with the decision of continuing with his newly founded and struggling entertainment business or following a higher calling past generations of his family had lived as preachers. It's a story of a young man "who has gone everywhere and done everything in an attempt to escape the inescapable."

Though there are a few moments that seem to drag on, overall, the film has good editing and good camera work that one expects to see in a documentary style film.

When asked what he thought were the greatest challenges of the film Grimes replied, "Ministers are not supposed to discuss their sins much less show them. Some churches resorted to burning copies of the DVD while threatening the lives of the filmmakers. The 'Bible-belt' prefers their preachers 'sinless.'"

Grime continued this thought when discussing the strengths of the film. "DEATH OF A PREACHER takes America's two greatest taboos, sex and religion, and engages how these dynamics play a role in the development of every human being on earth. The film is raw, honest and revealing."

The film was screened at the Hollywood Underground Film Festival in West Hollywood, premiered at Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA (www.jerrygrimes.com), has been reviewed in the Richmond-Times Dispatch, reviewed on several Radio-One Hip-Hop and R&B stations throughout Virginia and North Carolina. Numerous scholars such as Ralph C. Watkins, PhD, Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright and cultural critics such as Lynne D. Johnson have given DEATH OF A PREACHER in-depth critical reviews.
