"album review from progression magazine"

"I am a original artist. I believe that I am art living life. I can't give you a straight answer of why I make music or what type of sound I have, because i see sound as energy, and energy is always shifting toward change" So declares 20-year-old Jesse Ceja, who courageously has pursued identity and healing through art since breaking free from a severely reppressed childhood seven years ago. This Texas-based newcomer certainly has an impressionist's sense of inner/outer exploration on these eight loosely structured passages, which impart a dreamily spooky vibe via voice and electronic atmospheres. Ceja's sings and plays electronic "sounds" with assistance from fellow sound-maker Nolan Thies. One gets hints of yearning, hope, despair and release from Ceja's tone sketches, though the clarity of his words often get lost in the mix. The mood seem self-evindent, however. Suffice to say that Jesse's introspective ruminations on the likes of "Awaken", "Evoke", and the 19-minute "Repent" (which includes several minutes of silence midway through) represent catharsis, to which he hopes others might resonate- John Collinge - John Collinge

Bio

Born on September 4th of 1987, in Phoenix, Arizona but raised in Dallas, Texas. Ceja, has parents from Mexico City that had moved to the states due to religious suppression and found their way into Texas. While growing up he had a minster father and learned about all types of spiritual matters. At a young age he learned to be self expressive and how to grow. In 1998, his parents divorced and began to get curious of other spiritual matters that were not available to him and studied them. All of his teen years he continuously studied many topics like botany, Reiki, Kabbalah, Tao, Kundalini, and Hinduism. He was introduced to music by a friend, who at the time was making music. The collaboration didn’t last for but a year. By 2002, he knew he wanted to be an artist and began to pursue music. His family did not think that was the best road for him and refused it as an option. In 2004, he began to write songs for his own record and in a year wrote 17 songs. The following year he began the search of people to collaborate with. Going through many different producers, artist, and collaborators none really understood what he was trying to do or thought it was possible. It took until the end of the year for him to find Bass Propulsion Laboratories. Ceja, meets Tod Pipes in January of 2007, while on one of him sessions Ceja came to see the studio and show him his music. All Ceja had was some beats on a voice recorder and some scratch vocals and he let him hear. Pipes told him that his music sounded like boards of Canada and knew someone that would work with him. Thus, he met Nolan Thies. It took awhile for them to get a grasp of what type of music was being made but soon it was building itself. Ceja, eventually titled the record Under: Back Inside Gaia. Released in 2008, this is his first solo record with a dreamy spooky vibe and many electronic atmospheres with hints of hope and despair.
