Music has always been the touchstone of Jesse Smith's life. His family moved around often during his adolescence, so the tunes he found on his black Panasonic double tape-deck radio provided something stable across state borders. He recalls waiting by the radio for hours, pushing down the worn-out record button to make mixed tapes from the oldies station. Raised without a television in the home, Smith values having been unaffected by popular media, but regrets missing out on the many musical influences of his generation. It was the sounds of Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles in childhood coupled with more in depth jaunts in punk and classic rock and more recently indie rock formed his current musical sensibilities. Smith has always believed that if a person can sing and write good lyrics and melodies, they have an edge on the competition. Rather than following musical trends, Smith has always tried to focus on those criteria. A diverse history of successful yet unfullfilling schooling and employment led to Smith's realization that his most natural and enjoyable talent is writing and playing music. He has played with The Epics, as one of the two singer/songwriters of the group. He is currently interested in collaborating with other musicians with the goal of forming a band. He has played multiple shows in the New England Area, both solo and with bands.
Influence include but not limited to: The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, Oasis, The White Stripes, Bob Dylan, Jet, Simon and Garfunkel, Mando Diao, AC/DC, The Raconteurs, Ryan Adams, Josh Ritter, The Band, The Black Crowes, The Black Keys, The Yardbirds, The Blue Van.
