Bio

Jessica English was born in Southampton, England to June and Bryan English. She began playing piano at the age of eight, which gave her a much-needed outlet to express herself. She quickly began to pick up well-known tunes by ear, and received high grades in all of her associated board exams. She later began taking vocal, guitar and drum lessons to deepen her understanding of music as a whole. Jessica attended ‘The Atherley School,’ where she received classical training, but soon became more interested in writing her own music. She would spend lesson time working on lyrics or melodies to her latest songs, writing in a wide range of styles, which seemed like a much more valuable use of her time.
During this time, Jessica began performing on a regular basis at her school, playing in wind-bands, choir groups and live concerts, before moving on to playing open mike nights at local bars and clubs. Then the time came to get her music to a broader audience: Jessica began recording rough demos at her home, and sending them out to labels . She later sent a demo to the ‘UK songwriting contest’ and earned herself a semi-finalist position. A couple of years after this she became a finalist in the ‘Make it Break it’ awards held in the Paul Mccartney auditorium in Liverpool.
After a summer of writing an enormous amount of songs and a recommendation from her guitar teacher, Jessica packed up her things and moved to Los Angeles at the tender age of eighteen, to attend the Musicians Institute recording artist program. During this time she was able to perform at local cafes and bars as well as being introduced to a wider range of music. She began to find her artistic strengths, and started writing Indie/Pop/Experimental music, being heavily influenced by artists as diverse as the Red Hot chili peppers Fiona Apple and Ray Charles. She quickly got to recording her demo, complete with CD cover artwork as well as live instruments, that had before been created by midi, which gave her songs that much needed greater depth.
Jessica is currently finishing her debut album, which will be ready for sale mid 2008.
